I was planning on brewing a 10 gallon batch of an IPA or a Rye PA. I only have 5-6 gallon fermentation buckets and carboys so I figured I might as well split the batch and use different yeasts as an experiment. I was thinking American ale 1056 yeast for 1/2 and British ale 1098 yeast for the other. This would let me taste how the yeasts ferment differently. Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions would be appreciated.

Great that you're experimenting. Using a different yeast on the same recipe can really show you the difference between strains.

That said, it could be a little harder to tell the difference in a big beer like an IPA. You might consider keeping the recipe pretty simple.

Really?, I would have thought just the opposite. So maybe it would be better with an amber?

Don't be discouraged - you will probably detect a difference. It's just that the difference stands out more in a beer that has fewer powerful flavors going on. Especially when you are comparing a fairly clean strain (1098) and a really clean strain (1056).
