I bought some 1 L flip cap bottles and they do not seem to hold pressure.

Smaller bottles from the same batch are fine, the 1L are flat. This one I stored on its side, I don't know why I thought it might seal better on the side, but all the rest are stored upright.

This has happened several times. The first batch I got 3 or 4 bottles that were fine, the other 8 or 9 were flat. I keep trying different things, and filling only one bottle from a batch to see if it works. Not much luck.

I tried putting the seal in the water with the caps - no help. At first I thought maybe they just need breaking in, but now I am just frustrated.

Any thoughts?

Maybe you could put something in the cap, where the lever passes through. To take out some of the gap, and get more tension on the cap.
