i'm doing 1 gallon batches. i used to do 5 gallon batches before, but i got sick of cleaning up and gave up brewing. then found brooklyn brew shop book and got back into brewing. before i quit brewing with 5 gallon, i never did AG before.
during the holiday, i did belgian blone. however, it didn't come out as i expected. i think i'm doing something wrong.
main thing i noticed was that during the mash, i wasn't holding the temp constant. i do not have coolers so i kept the mash in the pot with lid on and took temp every 5-10 min and adjust as needed. i noticed that temp will drop sharply in some case and not drop at all in some.
so i'm thinking about getting a cooler. i read lot about getting the largest cooler that you are willing to pay for. but we are talking about 1 gallon batch most of the time, and if the brew comes out great, i might even go to 3 gallon batch. what would be the best size cooler? 5 gallon? i know i'm not going for 5 gallon or 10 gallon batch. too much cleaning and bottling. done that and hated it. drinking it wasn't the problem. just don't like cleaning and bottling...
