Gather 'round, single file, I know you all want to...

So, uh, I feel like a tool. Nothing that hurt any beer, but I was cooling the wort, and it seemed to be going a little bit slower than usual. Still cooling, just not quite as quick.

D'oh!

(forgot to turn off the propane burner).

Still got to pitching temp in less than fifteen minutes, no other issues except I forgot to throw in the flameout hops (so I'll dryhop instead).

So, if anyone asks whether the Banjo Cooker is quiet or not - well, there's your answer. :D

I give you credit for confessing that faux pas. I would have taken that one to the grave. Not as bad as forgetting to add priming sugar before filling/capping 50 bottles but you deserve a slap upside the head nonetheless.

Isn't that a little like when race-car drivers put the brakes and gas on to control weight transfer better?

Just tell us you did it for more control next time!

<slaps 'bird>

I'll never have to worry about that because I always move my brew pot to an ice bath for cooling. However, I have left the heat going full blast when I put in my steeping grains and burned a hole in the bag. In fact, I did that two brew sessions in a row a month ago.

*WHAP! WHAP*

Man that was fun! Can I go again?!?!?!
I'm brewing today too. My first attempt at a decoction. Boiling away as I type. My OG is going to be a bit low, I think, we'll see:mug:

That is actually a good trick to do if you ever get stuck in snow or mud or something. If one wheel is spinning like crazy, apply the brakes to lock the axles together....

I did it two weeks ago.
That's second only to dumping the wort in the kettle and going ino the house, coming back out and realising the spigots open:mad:.

*In my best Nelson voice*

Ha Ha!

Now I feel better. :D

I'm brewing right now, so we'll see what dumb thing I do...:p

Lol that's funny. Doesn't your burner make a ton of noise? Seems like a tough thing to forget

I would jump in on this, but I have the same burner and I did the same thing with my sparge water. I was too lazy to get out the small burner for that so I just used the Banjo. Took me a while to figure out why my sparge was sitting at 205.

That's the thing, it doesn't. Once you're just maintaining the boil, you can't hear it at all. Of course, I probably would have done the same with one of the jet burners....

Bird, ain't that boil done.....bring it oVa!!!! I said bring it oVaaa!!!!! It's defeatin' it's own purpose, bring it oVa!!!!

212 to 133 in seven minutes; I'm thinking the immersion chiller was winning on two of the three judges' cards. Usually, though, I'm close to or under 100 by that point, especially with the tap as cold as it is. So, as ugly as it is, the dual-coil chiller is a force to be reckoned with ;)
