    My Hefeweizen is STRONG...

After 10 days of being in primary I checked the gravity and it was 1.009 and was suppose to be around 1.012, not too far off. So i bottled the next day. Its been about a week after bottling, I wanted to make sure everything was going as it should so I put a bottle in the fridge and opened it the...

Anyone with MS experience out here?

My dad has had MS for about 10 years now. Unfortunately he has a progressive version that only 5% have. You have to be very patient because it is a frustrating disease. They are coming out with new MS drugs more frequently now and they have been helping a lot. Don't be afraid to ask for help...

    1 week in taste test..

I really hope thats how it ends with mine! Lets see, I fermented towards the high side between 70-73F. I used a Brewers Best extract kit but used Wyeast 3638 Bavarian Wheat instead of the dry yeast it came with.

    1 week in taste test..

My Hefeweizen has been fermenting for one week. I was curious what it taste like at this stage so i decided to test it out. It smells amazing, just like it should but it had a stronger alcohol taste than i was expecting. Is this normal at this stage? I would use my hydrometer but I've already...

First batch: to bottle or splurge on a keg?

You make your beer share a keezer with SODA! Shame shame. Haha. I never really thought about bottling from a keg, that makes so much sense. I don't mind getting the bottles especially since I already have a capper and caps. I'll just have to make sure I put a good threat out there to make sure I...

First batch: to bottle or splurge on a keg?

My first batch has only been fermenting for 2 days now but I am already thinking if I should bottle or just skip to buying a keg. If this goes well, I plan on taking all of my brew to a Halloween party(fingers crossed) and I really don't trust the party goers to keep the bottles in one piece. Is...

    New Here

Okay. Here is an update! We just went up with our hydrometer and tested it. It's been about 2 weeks in primary and the meter showed 1.022 which is what we found an IPA should be around. We never took an OG reading so we our just going off this one. We did a small taste test and it actually...

Is one degree too high ok?

Can I take the air-lock off within the first 24 hours to take the temperature? or will that screw it up?

Is one degree too high ok?

Just completed my first batch and checked the temperature and its about 72-73. I'm brewing a hefeweizen and was told to keep it between 64 and 72. Is 73 to high?? Will this ruin my brew?

    New guy

I'm in the same boat as you. I LOVE the hefe I get from Gordon Biersch on tap but I've tried three different hefe's in bottles and they are far from the tap flavor. I'm about to brew a hefeweizen this weekend and I really hope I'm not wasting my time and it turn out like the icky bottle version.

    Chick Beer?

Sounds exactly like my friends. But I do have that one friend who rather the most expensive beer he can find and then ends up drinking them all in the first hour or two and mooches off our miller for the rest of night. i think if you plan to drink a lot in one night miller lite is the way to go.

alton brown - but not what you think.

I've recently watched his episode too and I love the way he explains the process but the one thing that made me think while watching the episode was that he uses ice IN the fermenting bucket. My brew dude at the local brew shop said that's a big no because the ice has some contaminates. Who is...
