Leaking keg, I think it may not be repairable

This weekend I racked into this particular keg for the first time. It has all new orings, and keg lube on all the orings. When I aired it up it was leaking co2 from the beer post. It turned out that the leak seemed to be coming from the actual keg it self. Co2 was bubbling from around the...

Moving from tap water to RO water

I've been using tap water and adjusting it using a water spreadsheet. I have been getting a dry/bitter almost astringent taste in most of my beers since and I'm finally noticing a pattern. A friend said it could be due to excessive pH in my mash. Would using RO water fix this problem if the high...

    Canadian Pills

I've been trying to have my dad over for a brew day forever and tild him we would brew something he would like. He is a pretty big pilsner fan, and loves Canadian style pilsners, and I had him try a Czech style pilsner this weekend that he enjoyed. So with that said... any good Canadian Pils...

    Stir plate enclosure

I'm going to be building a stir plate soon, I was wondering if anyone has found an enclosure like the one the vortex from Northern Brewer is encased in. I would like a round enclosure, just based on aesthetics.

    Heat rock for fermentation chamber

Would a reptile heat rock work as a heat source for a 5 cubic foot fermentation chamber? I am using a fan right now and it heats up the chamber too much so that the freezer kicks on, it has a thermostat but will not kick the fan on at lower temps. I don't really want to go the light bulb route

Brew stand for rectangular cooler MLT

I've looked though about every brew stand thread known to man and I can't find a standard for a one burner rectangular cooler MLT set up. Most of the rigs I see are for HERMS or RIMS systems.... anyone have a rig for this set up that works well?

    Raisins in a Bock

I just recently had DFH raison d'etre for the first time and it's getting close to time to brew my annual Bock. Anyone ever had raisins in a Bock before, if so what was your impression?

    Blichmann Floor burner stand

I have searched a little bit and haven't found anyone out there that has built their own stand for the blichmann floor burner. I need the top of the burner to be about 36" off the ground (for a gravity fed system) and instead of buying the extension legs which will only net me 24" I was going...

    Mold in fermentation chamber

I noticed a few small mold spots and a little condensation in my freezer fermentation chamber after taking my beer out today. I did spill a little wort when I transferred some of it from the carboy to a 1 gallon jug I side the chamber so I was thinking that may be it. Is there any way to...

    brew stand build

I found this old food service tray holder at my in laws. Its made out of aluminum and I would love to be able to cut it apart and reassemble as a two tier gravity fed system, anyone out there who could tell me if this would be sturdy enough to hold 5 gal. batch boils. I'm planning on having...

first beer schedule using fermentation chamber

I have finally put together a fermentation chamber and am brewing a breakfast (ish) stout this weekend. My normal schedule has been 10 days in primary, 14 in secondary and then bottle. I am really considering not even transferring to a secondary, fermenting for 7 days at 65 degrees and then...

    Reverse Splash Screen

I was thinking while I was brewing this weekend if it would be possible to put a mesh screen on top of a kettle while it is boiling, to keep anything from floating in the wort while boiling. My conern is that the condensation formed on the screen would fall back into the wort causing a...

Tubing is white after pbw soak

I soaked all my tubing in a pbw solution 1 tsp per gallon, for a couple days, after I pulled it out today, the clear siphon tubing now has a milky white tint. Is the tubing still safe to use, or should I just soak them in some clean water for a couple days to see if it turns back?

    Next piece of brewing equipment

I just got into all grain, and I'm going to buy a new piece of equipment. I don't pour hundreds into my brewing hobby, so I work on a tight budget. I would love to buy a pump, but for right now its a new accessory. So, I was thinking of buying either a sight glass for my boil kettle, which...

    Measuring first wort

Is it safe to measure first wort runnings in a fermentation bucket or are temps too high for the bucket?

    Calculating strike/sparge water

I have read and read and read about calculating strike/sparge water amounts. I usually start with a 7 gallon pre-boil amount and usually gets me down to 5-5 1/2 gallons after a 60 minute boil. I have yet to brew and AG beer but have some extract under my belt. I used brew target to run a few...

    "upgrading" to star san

I have used one step for all my brews so far, but the more and more I read about one step it sounds like it doesn't really sanitize. I would use star san, but I've read stories about it ruining counter tops. As of now my wife supports my homebrewing hobby, if i ruined our counter tops...I...

    Oak cubes in a bock

I have a traditional bock lagering right now and am planning on adding some oak cubes. I was planning on adding 2 oz of medium toast french oak for about 10 days and then bottling. I will be taking this beer to a homebrew competition/party, so I will only be able to bottle condition for about...

    I can't decide.... 36qt or 52qt

Rule of thumb says to go bigger, but will smaller beers suffer too much in the bigger mash tun? My OG is usually under 1.070, but I may want to do some sort of imperial.... help me make up my mind 36qt or 52qt coleman xtreme?
