    some fun ideas

Hey folks! I recently got married and my husband (the master brewer) and I had a bit of a brewing themed wedding. Here's some favors/table toppers I did. They were a huge hit. I made the cake topper from a piece of dowel wrapped in clay. I cut all the bottles myself and grew the forget me not...

    how to use apricot

We are in the middle of making some brews for our wedding. We already have a few manly beers (rye ipa and smoked pale ale) but I'm whipping up something a little girlie for us lady-drinkers. We are doing two batches of fruit beer. One will be blueberry/cherry cream ale but I'd like to try making...

    frozen carboys!?!

After washing all of the equipment, I was ready to transfer and dry hop an ipa. You could imagine my surprise when I stepped outside and found ten gallons of delicious beer frozen solid! For shame! So what do I do now? They were done primary fermenting before they froze. I opened the door of...

    end of hop season?

I live in the bay area of California and we have had very cool summer here. Much cooler than the rest of the u.s. anyways. I have two hop varieties, Willamette an Chinook. Both are "first years". So my willametter only put out an ounce of dry hops. Then stopped producing about a month ago. My...

    Hop cones with leaves protruding

I've already got almost-complete hop cones but some cones appear to have leaves growing out of the center. Will post pics. I've been keeping watering and grooming of the plant on a fairly tight schedule but I've not seen anything lie this. Everything appears to be healthy too.

    hop storage

Ill be dehydrating my first hop harvest. I am planning on getting mason jars for canning other things. Would it be better to dehydrate hops and can them? Or should i (unwillingly) invest in a vacuum sealer for storage?

looking for rhizomes in the bay area, california.

I'm looking for enough rhizome to support one mound. Already have some chinook. Willing to buy with cash or homebrew. The sooner the better of course. I know I can buy online but I'm more comfortable with getting hops privately that are already accustomed to my area. Thanks to anyone that can...

Anyone around the bay area, ca?

Looking to add a rhizome to my hop yard since my willamette decided it wasn't gonna make a comback. Anyone around the east bay willing to sell/trade beer for a rhizome? I'm not too picky on type of hop, already have chinook. I'm only really looking for just one hop mounds' worth. Please and...

    growing hops indoors

I have some rhizomes that I'd like to bring indoors and grow so I have strong starters this spring. I would like to use water instead of soil, any recommendations on how to get my rhizomes to start bining? I was thinking of using a big dark vase, fill it with water, add some nutrients, such as...

    chinook vs. willamette

I transplanted some rhizomes from a friend about three months ago. The willamette initially took off and the chinook looked worrisome. Now the chinook is about five feet long. The willamette is a measley 8 inches. They are both receiving the same sunlight, water, and nutrients. They both are...

    rhizome care

Just pulled a rhizome from my brothers hop plant and need to know if I gotta get it into the dirt tonight or can I wait until morning. If waiting till morning, do I refridgerate?

    Hop advice from californians?

Hello, I live in the ba area and have decided to grow hops a few months ago, like july. Now my nbines are between 6 inches and two feet. Should I cut for winter or just let them hang out thru winter into spring?

do different hop strains yield different beginning bines/leaves?

Recently I transplanted some willamette and chinook from a friends yard into my own. Now bines are beginning to sprout and leaf out. My willamette has the leaves with the three points and the asparagus new shoot look. My chinook has single point leaves and lacks the asparagus look. Is this...

    hop me, please?

Hello. I transplanted some hops from a friends yard (a littl late in the year I know). I've been watering and telling them to grow faster and I think its working. The bines of one plant have all but turned to dust but around the stalk of the bines on both plants, little green leaves have...
