    Wedding

I know there are a million threads about weddings and homebrew, but I wanted to know a good amount to brew. The wedding is in September 2013 and at this point we're looking at 250 people or so. By my count I would need ten 5 gallon batches in order for everyone to have at least 2 beers. I know...

    Grape stomping

I'm doing a grape stomping at a winery tomorrow and they let you keep the juice that you stomp. I was thinking about fermenting it and wondered if anyone else has any experience with a situation like this. I've been brewing beer for a while now and have all the equipment, but my only experience...

Attempting to clone River Horse Tripel Horse

I emailed River Horse brewery for a recipe. They gave me the ingredients and that's it. No target numbers or percentages. This is a Belgian Style Tripel that comes in at 10% abv, is fairly dry, and fruity/spicy but not overwhelmingly so. Here's my attempt...

    Anyone have the Gunnar Maltmill?

I'm getting a mill for my birthday and originally asked for a Barley Crusher, which I've heard has terrible customer service. I was thinking about maybe getting the Gunnar Maltmill from AHS but I haven't found many reviews on it, mostly just old posts from when AHS first started selling it. Does...

    Irish Red

You would not believe how hard it is to find a traditional Irish Red that is not Killian's, Sam Adams, or Smithwicks. Tons of hoppy American versions, which I like, but nothing for me to try for research. Any suggestions?

    Wyeast 1026 Substitution

I really want to try a recipe from an issue of Philly Beerscene, but it calls for Wyeast Cask Ale yeast, which is a seasonal yeast. Does anyone know a good sub for this strain or should I just wait til it's available again?

Curious about my dad's old winemaking methods

As a kid my dad made a red wine in a used bourbon barrel every year (new barrel each time). When I got into brewing beer I thought he would have a lot of good advice for me, but it turns out he was pretty much just throwing 5-gallon buckets of pure grape juice (boy, was that some tasty juice)...

    14 gallon demijon

My dad gave me a 14 gallon demijon that he tried and failed to make cider in. It's very large and has a spigot attached to a small length of hose that runs from the center of the bottom to the side of the basket. I was thinking about using it to make a large batch of apfelwein. I was wondering...

First 5 gallon batch, tastes amazing

I just tried my first non-Mr. Beer brew and it certainly exceeded my expectactions. It was the Rye Pale Ale from Brewers Best. I've been lurking on this site for a few months now and I must say all of the info on here has been really helpful. Special thanks to Revvy's bottling tips thread, saved...
