Mash Volume Higher than Boil Volume eHERMS

All of this makes sense, thanks for the in depth response. I’m surprised I haven’t come across this in the past, but I guess the high OG beers I’ve brewed were more in the 1.090s as opposed to the 1.10s

Mash Volume Higher than Boil Volume eHERMS

Thanks! I did plan on a longer boil (90 mins instead of my normal 60), but sounds like I should have gone longer. Should I have planned on a boil volume/time that was equal to the first runnings of my mash? Or even longer to allow a small sparge? The only problem is that my eHERMS/steam...

Mash Volume Higher than Boil Volume eHERMS

Hello, I came across a new situation for me during my last brewing session: I brewed a RIS (Dry Bourbon-Coffee Beaned) with a 32.5 lb grain bill that required about 10.2 gallons of strike water for my desired mash thickness. It was a 5 gallon batch on my 20-gal eHERMS system, and my boil...

    Spike - Steam Condenser Lid

I have it going into a bucket. I had to buy a longer 3/4 ID silicone hose to reach the bucket, but originally had it touch the bottom which caused it to be submerged after a little bit of boiling. I cut the hose to where it just hovers above the bucket as it drains and that fixed the leak...

    Spike - Steam Condenser Lid

just re-read the manual: my exit hose gets submerged often (it shouldn’t be)…that’s gotta be my problem, didn’t even think of the pressure build up that would cause

    Spike - Steam Condenser Lid

The pump is working great as far as I can tell, but not sure about the nozzle? Maybe I’ll take it apart and see if it’s gummed up with scale or something. I get flow out of the nozzle, but I’m not sure if it’s at the appropriate rate or not. I use Craftbeerpi to run my boil output at the...

    Spike - Steam Condenser Lid

Has anyone figured out how to get steam to stop leaking out the rim of the lid? I have a spike 30 gal kettle with the lid on an eHERMS using 5500 ulwd elements. When I run the boil at anything greater than 15% (slightly rolling boil) steam starts leaking out the sides and condensates/drips down...

Is CraftbeerPi still available or is there a better option?

Thanks a lot for this! Got it loaded and it works like a champ! Does anyone know how do you disable "autostart/auto fullscreen for chromium"? Thanks again!

    CraftBeerPi 3 - Brewtronix

I know this is reviving a very old thread, but I just got my Hosehead humming with CBPi 2.2 and I was curious if you’d recommend upgrading to CBPi 3 with this system? We’re there any pros/cons to upgrading the software or was it pretty transparent? I want to stay current, but I’m cautious...

    What are you drinking now?

My good friend’s brother-in-law is a brewer there (Ed), I’ve heard good things, was it pretty cool?

    Which eHERMS controller?

I just got mine set up a few months ago, I like it a lot. I got the Hosehead 5BC for my 20 gal eHERMS system. Ive done 5 brews on it and its pretty slick; it's cool controlling the pumps & elements from my iPhone or laptop. My set up has a small glitch (most likely a fluke), but Corey (the...

    KBS Clone Krausen

Yeah, that’s the conclusion I came to. Thanks!

    KBS Clone Krausen

Thanks! Mine attenuated down to 1.020 which was right about on target. I have a newer system, so I messed up and sparged a little too fast. My OG was 1.070 instead of 1.089. No complaints though. More of a Russian Proletariat Stout as opposed to a RIS...

    KBS Clone Krausen

Brewed an all grain KBS clone last week with chocolate and cocoa in the boil. It’s been about 4 days in primary and the krausen looks a little different to me. Anyone done an RIS and seen krausen like this?

Why are drip trays so expensive???

I just used the SS mudpan listed here and built a wood holder for it. I left the mud pan loose in the frame so I can take it out and rinse it easily. Works great for me and I think it looks adequate....especially for $14 and some scrap wood/paint.

Show us your electric brewing rig

Looks good! Good call on the pump bleeder valve, I need to put one of those in, I’m having priming issues here and there.
