    Brand new brewer, recipe critique?

I was advised to cut the honey malt down but I didn't. I haven't noticed it to be too out of balance or having a cloying or sticky characteristic either. That being said, I do not have an experienced palette and would not presume to know better than some of the experienced folks on the forum who...

    Brand new brewer, recipe critique?

So I've been drinking this for a few weeks and it turned out really good, looks and tastes a bit like Newcastle but with a slight bubble gum aroma that reminds me of some Belgians or Belgium inspired blondes and trippels. Thanks for the tips everyone! Cheers, Collin

Fruit beer, size of carboy for secondary

So thanks for the tip everyone, I ended up using 6lb frozen peaches in an ale pail for ten days then added 5 grams of redstar champagne yeast right before bottling. Three weeks after bottling I tried it-disgusting! It tasted like rotten fruit mixed with crappy beer! 4 weeks after that I got my...

    TGI Fridays Brew menu

I agree, I have made a personal decision that I will not knowingly give up any of my money to budweiser. Not that I hate them, I actually admire them a little, they are smart and ruthless business people. But I also feel that they have had enough of our money and there are plenty of fantastic...

    Nylon bucket filter help

Right, but my question was not about straining into primary. I was asking smack2000 about straining into his secondary, where oxidation is not only a major concern but also a top reason to not use a secondary(according to some opinions), except in the case of barleywines and fruit beers. Thanks...

    Nylon bucket filter help

Don't you risk a lot of oxidation doing this? I filter my wort into the primary with a funnel strainer but I may split my next batch in half to see if it affects the taste at all(good or bad). I have seen posts that say it's ok either way, the trub will all fall to the bottom eventually Cheers...

Do you think this will keep my supply up?

Between the 2 hundred+ that I have spent just getting 3 batches into the fermentor(s) and the thousands of dollars in available upgrades and stuff I don't have yet, I am pretty sure that I will never save money by making my own beer. But it sure is fun! Cheers, Collin

    Beer in the airlock question

Hi all! So my frankenbeer has been in the fermentor for 2 and a half days now. It is in a 6 gallon morebeer bucket with bung and 3 piece airlock. I have a little kraussen coming up through the airlock. It started this morning and started as just a little debris and after 12 hours has just...

Fruit beer, size of carboy for secondary

Hi all, I'm sure this has been answered but I can't seem to find it so here goes: My next beer will be made with peaches. I plan to mash up 4-6 lbs of frozen precut peaches, place them in a carboy and rack on top of them. I have a 6.5 gallon carboy already but should I go with a smaller size to...

    First beer

My newest favorite from the store is Leffe blonde. Its kinda light, sweet, and tingly all in one but the abv is 6.6 so be careful. I think the aroma was what I like the most about it though, sorry I am not better at elaborating on how it tastes, other than it is tasty! I got a 6 pack from meijers.

    New keg day tradition

That sounds like a great idea! Could you walk me through the process of gathering the yeast? Just not sure if you use some trub or maybe some of the beer itself? I'm totally new to this stuff... Cheers, Collin

    First 5 gallon batch!

Hi all, thanks for the replies! So as far as the tin foil, by Saturday morning I had it replaced with a bung and airlock. Krausen is about 3-4 inches thick and the airlock is bubbling nicely! The more I read, the more I realized I should have just left the corn sugar alone, but oh well, it's my...

    First 5 gallon batch!

Hi all! So a few days ago I put my first 'from scratch' recipe up here which was basically a mish-mash of ingredients to use up my 2 remaining Mr Beer cans of mix. I got some great feedback on that and appreciate the help. But, a lot of my ingredients were ordered online and will not be...

    Brand new brewer, recipe critique?

Thanks for the advice! I will kick around the idea of lowering the quantity of the crystal and honey. The plan is to only boil the LME and HME for the 15 minutes that I have the fuggles in for, is that still too long of a boil? Thanks again for the help, can't wait till brewday! Cheers...

    Brand new brewer, recipe critique?

Hi Joel, thanks much for the reply! How cool is that to end up as a head brewer at an awesome brewery! Congrats! From everything i've read, a starter can't hurt but could make the difference between good and great. My flask is only 1 liter so I was thinking of doing a 500ml starter with 1/4 cup...

    Brand new brewer, recipe critique?

Hi everyone! Quick intro- My name is Collin and whilst drinking some beers with a buddy, started talking about brewing my own beer. Just so happens that my friends wife bought him a Mr. Beer kit a couple years ago that he never used so he gave it to me. Promptly went home and started fermenting...
