Brew Year Resolution - 2012 Brewing Goals

    1. Progress on my 3 tier setup (unless I hit the lotto and get a single tier). 2. Start brewing 10 gallon batches. 3. Build a fermentation chamber (under work bench). 4. Build a planter box in the backyard and plant some rhizomes. 5. Brew and enjoy beer :)

How do I use star san most effectivly for bottling?

Another vinator/bottle tree combo user. After doing a few batches and trying to turn the bottles upside down in a dish drainer after soaking/rinsing the bottles in the star san mix I had in the sink it was well worth the investment... the only regret I have is not buying a bigger bottle tree.

    Homebrewtalk Carboy Cleaner Giveaway

I'd like to win this because using a brush and twirling a glass carboy around to get it clean isn't safe... and I have a bad history with glass... lol.

American Amber Ale Caramel Amber Ale

This was my first all grain experience, other than some dumb mistakes on my part while pouring the water into the mash tun (thank god I heated more than needed) it went great. I'm due to bottle it this Friday and can't wait to taste it! Cheers all!

    Recycling Bottles?

steve45ca - I believe they are fine to use, just more apt to break if not careful while capping.

    Recycling Bottles?

Use them till they break! I've accumulated a vast array of bottles from friends that I've de-labeled and are waiting to be filled. Now I need to up production because they're feeling empty inside and I don't want them to get depressed lol.

How did you get hooked on brewing?

I had been talking about trying it out and then my GF got me a kit for Christmas. I waited until about March when my neighbor got me a 15g stainless pot and it's gone downhill from there as far as working on my collection of brewing equipment and trying new recipes lol. What a great hobby.

    My first brew

Looks great! I would suggest using a blowoff tube for future batches as well though. Tough lesson learned after coming home to what must have been an amazing show of a krausen fountain spraying from the top of the bubbler until the top of the 6.5g bucket blew off lol. Enjoy the hobby...

    Gift for a homebrewer

I'd say a gift card to your local home brew store... it may not be as personal as anything else but unless you know exactly what he has already then it would be best for him to pick something out that he wants/needs.

    My Fermentation Chamber Build

Looks great! Let us know how it performs. I have 2.8 cu ft fridge I'm thinking about building one around.

Man that is a nice looking rig! Congrats on the build!

    Southern Tier Pumking

I've only had 2 bottles (bought the same day) of it this year but it tasted like pumpkin pie in a bottle to me when we had it. It's crazy how much disparity everyone is getting between bottles.

    What's your go-to-homebrew?

So far it's been this one posted by Cheesefood: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/caramel-cream-ale-2435/ It's the one I've had a hard time keeping in the fridge either from my girlfriend, my friends or me knocking a few back.

American Amber Ale Caramel Amber Ale

Sounds great, just got some fresh Chinook and I was looking through to find a recipe. This is the one.

    5 Gallon Glass Carboys

I've been using my 6.5g bucket fermenters as my primaries for now. I'm planning on leaving the pumpkin ale in that until bottling time but I have another ale that I plan on ageing for at least 6 months on bourbon/oak cubes so that'll be the one I put into the 5 Gallon. I've been doing 5 gallon...

    5 Gallon Glass Carboys

Ok, so I got a good run on some glass 5 gallon carboys, $8 a piece. My question is this. When I rack over to them off of the trub from the primary if there is any headspace what should I do to prevent oxidation? I know I should probably start making larger batches in order to fill the space...

    Bucket top about to burst!!!

Yep, learned the hard way to use a blow off tube as well. Hope it doesn't geyser on you.
