    Simcoe hops. Anyone have any?

Since this is in the hop growing forum, i'm assuming you're looking for rhizomes. My understanding is that Simcoe is a proprietary hybrid, and only licensed growers can grow it. Which means no rhizomes for us!

What's the smallest batch of beer you've made?

Unintentionally, 3 gallons. Turned out great (and it was an IPA)

    Is this grain crush ok?

This grain was from Morebeer, though i have gotten NB grain that looked like this as well (and not too long ago).

    Is this grain crush ok?

Well i had been on the fence whether i wanted to get my own mill or not, i think that seals the deal. Thanks for the input guys!

    Is this grain crush ok?

Hey Guys, I've periodically been running into efficiency issues, and while i have it almost under control, i'm still coming in 0.010 or so below where i should be for my pre-boil gravity, and in turn my starting gravity. There are only a few things left to try, but one thing i'm not sure of...

    Should I let these grow?

I think that will work out perfectly, thanks.

    Should I let these grow?

Thanks for the responses guys, sounds like i should just let them do their thing. I'm assuming that i should have a separate string for each bine, or are they not going to get dense enough to warrant that?

    Should I let these grow?

Hello everyone, So i planted my first hops this season, 4 varieties with 2 rhizomes each. I didn't have a planter or anything to put them in, so i just grabbed the biggest pots that home depot had. The question is that since i'm a little confined on root space, should i let the multiple...

    Imperial Oatmeal Stout Recipe Critique

Hey Guys, I did a variant on this one before, but ran into severe efficiency issues, so now that i think i have those worked out, i tweaked it and would like to try it again. Let me know what you think, or what you'd change. 15 lbs Pale 8 oz Carafa III 1 lb Crystal 60 8 oz Chocolate 2...

    IPA Critique

New IPA recipe, but i'm having a really hard time sorting out my hop additions. How do you guys think this looks? I'm looking for a pretty hop-forward IPA, not too malty. All Grain Recipe: 12 lbs 2-Row 1 lbs Crystal 40 1 lbs Cara-Pils/Dextrine Mash 60 min @ 154 F 60 Minute Boil...

    Critique my all-grain process

The last time i measured it, it was somewhere around 2.5 gallons below the FB. I will do a more accurate measurement to see how much it actually is. As of right now the FB is pretty much as low as it can go, as it's a pretty wide pot and the spigot is also as low as it should have been put...

    Critique my all-grain process

I don't have the recipe in front of me, but it was a little over 20 pounds of grain total, 15 of pale malt, the rest a mix of roasted barley, carafa ii, and chocolate malt. I have two separate thermometers that seem to be pretty accurate (one in the MLT, one loose one). My hydrometer is...

    Critique my all-grain process

So, it seems like anyone you ask has a different answer for how to brew all-grain, so i figured i'll post what i'm doing, and you guys can tell me what i'm doing wrong. I know a lot of steps will vary depending on the type of beer, for reference in this post i'm referring to an imperial stout i...

    Brett and Lacto secondary issues

Hello all, I recently brewed a Saison that i was planning on splitting up and doing secondaries with Brett, Lacto, and Brett+Lacto. Unfortunately, i didn't plan very well and ended up with the wrong stoppers for my small secondaries, so i had to postpone transferring to secondary for about 2...

    Sharing my first war story

although my brewing wasn't as painful as yours sounds, i also did a last minute switch from airlock to blowoff tube on my brew last night. similarly, wow i'm glad too. good choice!

    Foamy keg

Also, for the temp, to get an accurate temp you should put a glass of water in the fridge and measure it's temp. That's the most accurate way to get a liquid temperature of the fridge.

    Strange gravities?

Thanks for the replies I did measure the 5 gal using an ale pale, i guess i'll have to do some more exact measuring next time to determine where my 5 gal mark is in my equipment. This was an extract w/specialty grains recipe. I steeped for about 25 minutes (recipe said 15-30 min) before...

    Foamy keg

Do you know what the internal diameter is of your beer line vs the barb? if it's reducing the flow then when it comes out the other end it could very well foam. Another thing i'd try (not sure if you've done this yet) is to pour two beers in a row through the bad tower. If the second one...

    Strange gravities?

Hello everyone, Just did first homebrew last week, Hop Head DIPA extract kit from Midwest Supplies. On day 7 transferred from primary to secondary in order to dry hop (per the instructions). The SG was about 1.060, should have been around 1.070-1.074 according to the directions. It's a 5...
