SWMBO likes "wheaty" beer . . . . but not wheat beers!

Have you tried Hoegarden? or Paulaner Hefeweizen My wife loves both of those beers. Other Wheats she is not big on but will drink them. But those two are her favorites right now. Kellerweisse is good by Sierra Nevada. 1 more. Golden Monkey by Victory my wife likes and it gets her...

    First brew - off taste

Union yes back of the tongue definitely sits there. My ferm temps do vary where I keep everything and obviously this first batch even more so in going from basement to upstairs closet. The closet varies also i live in an old drafty house and SWMBO won't let me leave it sitting out. The...

    First brew - off taste

The first sip tastes good. After half a glass it is gross. Maybe the off flavor builds up on my palate as I drink it. I don't know.

    First brew - off taste

My last batch the Hefe. Went much better all the way around. So hopefully that will be much better. What I did - I was able to boil 3.5g in a 5g Kettle on a propane burner. I then put the kettle in a ice bath in my sink and cooled it off in about 20 - 30 min. To 78* then pitched yeast...

    First brew - off taste

Did not start the siphon with my mouth. I have an auto siphon. I feel I was reasonably careful with sanitation although not 100% on it. Just occasional little things like my hand had water on it it dripped into bucket but only a drop or two. The auto siphon touched a uncovered piece of...

    First brew - off taste

Star san for bottles. Oxy clean to clean them and get the labels off. I soaked them in Oxy clean then peeled labels rinsed them then dunked in Star san for a minute or so. Soaked caps in Star San. However for my equipment I used LD Carlson one step cleaner that was before I got star san.

    First brew story (Long)

Thanks Mike good advice on the bottling. I haven't quite figured that out yet. But that sounds easiest to me. Good to hear no big deal about the hops in the fermenter. I have already ordered my second kit and have a glass carboy so thinking about racking it to that so i can start the next...

That's a good idea on the hop bag. Would be much easier then straining. That's good to hear about the hectic. I think if the water boiled as intended it would have made things much easier. But it just threw the whole process off.

    First brew story (Long)

Thanks Flomaster. That was my original plan to just leave it in primary for 3 weeks. I was just worried about not straining out the hops. So it is ok to just let it sit in there - the hops that is.
