    Morbid Labels.

Here are a few of my labels. Morbid in nature I think. But who cares they are mine. :cross: I plan on tying thes labels to the neck so cleaning isn't a pain in the a$$.

    Thick Irish stout wanted!

So many reciepies...Not enough brewing knowledge to know what the hell it all means to the beers outcome. I'm sure experience is the key as in anything we do. What would be a easy partial mash recipe for a 5 gal batch of thick Irish stout for a first timer masher? Other question. Is...

First case brewed, bottled and put in storage!

After alot of reading, day dreaming and loss of sleep because of nothing but homebrew on my mind. Here it is! Now off to work on a label for a few of these Belgian Ales. I'm gonna crack the first one in about 2 weeks to see where it is on carbonation. Got 55 Ales out of that batch. :)

First ever brew is going great. Thanks!

I'm heading out tomorrow to Anchorage, Ak for a few days. So I thought it would be good to put my ale in a secondary. Just thought I would say thanks to everyone. The people here are great and I have learned more on this forum in a few weeks than many books related to homebrewing. Looks...

Yikes! Fermentation bucket not sealed for two days.

Two days ago I took a hydro reading on my ale. Things are coming alone nicely and I put the lid on and the airlock back in place. It takes a while for pressure to make the airlock bubble which is normal so I placed the bucket back in the garage. Over the course of the next two days I noticed...

    Growlers as testing vessels.

I saw a video of a guy using growlers for fermentation. Thought that's a hell of a idea. Take enough wort to fill a growler and place the rest in your carboy/bucket. Leave your main fermenter alone and test the growler only. Seems easier to get samples and less likely to get infections since...

Measure of a man vs. Starbucks.

I like to think of myself as, the kind of guy you think about when you watch the outdoor channel. You know the type...The blue collar guy. The one other men, who wear suits to work snicker at. Forcing me to return the favor by making fun of their "pink" power ties while rolling up my sleeves...

1st ever brew...I tried a swig a week in after a hydro reading

Ok, so this is my first homebrew. I went with a belgian ale and I think everything is going alright. It's from a extract, but I think my fatal flaw was pitching yeast way to hot. I ran out of time and had to run to work. Next time I will allow more time. The OG was 1.042 and now it reads...

WTF up with your pants? Get a belt!

This one is driving me insane. I get irritated as all get up on this topic...Sometimes it leads to me being vocal. I figure if some kid/guy/punk can broadcast to the world, that they want to show their underwear and ass around.....Then I will just broadcast to everyone in the store that you...

    Hydrometer reading in fermenter?

Alright...Don't jump my ass. Can I just sanitize the hydrometer and read it out of the bucket or is this a common practice? Messing aroung trying to get liquid in the hydrometer tube, just to read it just as easily in the bucket seems unessasary. Or am I missing something here?

Seems our University here has a brewing curriculum

So it seems the Univerisy of Fairbanks Alaska has a beer course. I was at the local home brew shop today and ran into the gentlemen (professor) that gives the courses. Hell of a guy. I got the 20 min. run down of what he teaches at the Univ. during the summester with out the tutition. Sweet...

    Fermentation temps (High and Low)

I have been reading up on fermentation and temps. Seems there are different brews that recommend different temps to allow the yeast to do their job efficiently. My problem is my garage and the flexing temps. (50 F-81 F) My oil burner in my garage runs my hot water heater all year and my...

    Hi from North Pole, Alaska

Hi everyone, My name is Benjamin Merrell Yep, I'm from North Pole. I've heard all the jokes before. Yes, we have Santa here too (the guy actually changed his name to Chris Kringle and run a place called the Santa Clause House). North Pole is actually 12 miles from Fairbanks, Alaska...
