    Water softener and brewing water

I didn’t even think about the bypass. That’s a good idea!

    Water softener and brewing water

Sweet. Thanks guys. I live in central TX and our water is super hard everywhere around here. Lots of bicarbonate and ph is typically off the charts. I don’t remember the exact number but the hardness is just absurd, but when you sit on limestone.... Even the guy who installed the softener said...

    Water softener and brewing water

hey everyone, I just had a water softener installed and am wondering how to figure out what it does to my water as far as brewing is concerned. Anyone know how to figure that out? Where to start?

    Favorite Lager Yeast

Serbian yeast? I would be interested to try that.

    Favorite Lager Yeast

The spray wand is my favorite part. I have a dish sink wand now after not having one for years. Those things are so damn handy and with a few tools/attachments, you can customize your brew days to get "hard to clean" items clean. My girlfriend would love if I built her one of those. She just...

    Favorite Lager Yeast

That is a pretty awesome brewery you built yourself. Took most of the ideas on my brewery right out of my head!

    Favorite Lager Yeast

Thats a big "when" it becomes available. I had Wyeast 2575 PC II a few years back and lost it when I lost my yeast stash. I emailed them and they said it would be available in 2016....2016 is almost over and it hasn't been produced yet as far as I know. I will definitely keep it in mind though...

    Favorite Lager Yeast

Yeah I prefer a drier beer. I have tried many on that list that I didn't mention and I would agree the differences are negligible. I see more flavor variations with ale yeasts than I do with lagers. I recently made a few IPL's to try something different and each one was just too malty. I used...

    Favorite Lager Yeast

I've made many beers in my home brewing life and I could literally talk about yeast all day long. There are so many varieties and I feel like I'm getting a new toy when I buy a new strain. My question is this: what is YOUR favorite lager strain and why? I'm looking to make a clone of the...

    Wlp830 d-rest question again

Thanks for the advice Yooper. I have read thousands of your threads and I trust/appreciate your input. I wanted to check it a day earlier when my closet smelled like massive egg farts coming from the fermentation fridge but work got the better of me.

    Wlp830 d-rest question again

Oh I know the patience aspect. I was checking at the five day mark due to my last experience. I was more shocked that it was almost completely down to fg range. I plan on leaving it in primary for at least another ten days and lagering for at least a month. If not longer. I have made it a habit...

    Wlp830 d-rest question again

So before we start, this is my 2nd true lager. I have brewed for 8 or so years and consider myself relatively knowledgeable. I have done many pseudo lagers but this only my 2nd lager ever, sad I know. That being said, I have read way to many threads and have spent too much time studying beer...

    Bravo and El Dorado hops?

Cool. Thanks for the post. I'm planning on using the el dorado in my next beer hopefully. I'm pretty glad I bought as much as I did. At least if I'm not happy, I'll have plenty more to use😁

    Bravo and El Dorado hops?

I guess I should have mentioned I don't plan on using them in the same beer. They were on sale at AHBS and I bought a bunch of each. I tried the bravo out in a session IPA last week so I'll have some details soon but I haven't used the el dorado just yet. I did find out after the fact that...

    Bravo and El Dorado hops?

Anyone have any real experience with Bravo or El Dorado hops? I bought a couple of ounces of each and I have found very little on either. I am more curious about Bravo. From what I've read, they can be a mixed bag. Good for bittering, slim on aroma. Also read the opposite. Would like to try them...

    Critique my pale ale

I call it Sierra Nasty... Don't hate on the name. It was inspired by Sierra Nevada and my college nickname, nasty. 10# 2 row .5# Honey many .5# C60 .5# Carapils 60 min mash, shoot for lower mash temp. 148-150. I averaged 148. Think session-able. 1oz centennial@60 min .5 cascade@30 min .5...

    Critique my pale ale

I have actually had pretty decent results with 30/45 min additions. I have another beer I've perfected that I first wort hop, then follow with a 60/30/flameout schedule that has been a favorite of my friends. I have made a few variants of it but I've stuck with the original because it gave the...

    Critique my pale ale

The Greenbelt strain is only available from Austin Homebrew, from what I've seen. I like it a lot. I have used it a lot since it came out sometime last year. I really liked the first batch. The only tasting notes I wrote were simple..."tastes great!". Greenbelt cleans up well after itself...

    Critique my pale ale

So here is a recipe I made a few months back. Going to make it again for my personal keg. Just wondered what others thought. 9.5# 2-row .5# Red wheat .5# munich light .25 # C20 .25# C60 2 oz Victory Hop Schedule .5 Northern Brewer 90min .75 cascade 45 min .5 cascade 15 min .5...

    Slow leak in keg

Bought some keg lube and lubed it up. Have been trying to pressurize a beer for over a week now and everyday I come home it is back to step one. Any more ideas?
