    Old Patagonian Victoria Hops

Hey all.. So, my LHBS gave me a pack of 1 kg (2.2 lbs) of Patagonian grown Victoria hops (http://tienda.lupulodelapatagonia.com.ar/pellets/pellets-victoria/), but they are more than 2 years old (2013 harvest) and he couldn't guarantee that they were always stored cold. I'm planning on...

So, I found a hole on my stem

Thanks for the help. I haven't found any 'frass' but my best guess is that it was some kind of larvae. I cut the stem and stuck it back into the ground to promote new root formation. Do you think I should open up the stem with a knife to see if I found anything?

So, I found a hole on my stem

Hi all, Two days ago I came home to find part of my plant with a lot of seared leaves. I thought it was lack of water so I gave some. The other day the situation got worse, so I remove the mulch and found that one of the stems had a hole in it!! The pictures are not great, but you can have...

First time hop growing with cuttings.

I also got mine from cuttings and when they were about the size of yours I got them to the groud. One of them is doing great and has grown to a considerable size. The other one had some problems with it leaves (almost all of the fell off) but it started gorwing again and it's doing OK now. I...

What horrible thing would do this??

If you think that's horrible take a look at what I found eating out some of my leaves. It looked like a small wood stick with very ugly teeths... I looks like a thing from out of a Alien movie...:confused:

Need advice - yellow and falling leaves

Actually they came from another plant that was grown directly from seeds. A friend of mine got some UK seed, got them to germinate, cut off a bine, somehow made it produce a rootlet and got it on a small planter. After it was some 1-2 foot high I got them to the ground. So I really don't know...

Need advice - yellow and falling leaves

Hi there. I just came back yesterday from a bussiness trip to find my plants with a lot of bright yellow and falling leaves. Also there are some leaves that are curvy and not growing at all. I think its worth mention that the top shoots are still growing very rapidly, something like 3 in a...

Here in Brazil it is very common to spray a tea made from dried tobacco leaves to control aphids. I was thinking on trying this. Any ideas??

    Is this Powdery Mildew?

I was actually referring to regular garden spider, but yes you're right. It is spider mites. Take a look at the photo. They are very small black mites and I can find some very very thin webbing. Any good solutions? Yesterday I sprayed the hole plant with some soap and water solution but today...

    Is this Powdery Mildew?

That's another good theory. Any good way to get rid of them? Is it harmfull? The hops already have a few spiders living in, with webs and all. I thought they would get rid of some insect. Time to find some new spiders to live there.

    Is this Powdery Mildew?

Thanks for the tips. DarkCoder, yes that's lime and no, the spots are not washed away with water. I also don't think that the wall is causing this since the leaves already had those marks when I got them off the planters and to the ground. They were in a different place away from this wall...

    Is this Powdery Mildew?

Hi... First time hop grower directly from Brazil. A friend of mine got some "UK type" hops seeds, got them to germinate and gave me some plants. At first they were slow to grow in a small planter but as soon as they hit the ground the vines are growing 2-3 inches a day. Here is a photo of the...

    Where to get rhizomes now?

Thank you guys, but Brazilian customs doesn't care what you bring into the country. Everyone that I know that tried to bring rhizomes didn't encounter any trouble at all. If I get unlucky and they catch me the worse that can happen is losing the rhizomes and a few bucks. It's worth the risk...

Hey, I'm a homebrewer from Brazil and I'm planning a vacations trip to the USA late August / early September and was wondering where could I find hops rhizomes this late in the season. I want to try to grow them at home here in Brazil even tough the climate doesn't help, but just for the...

Low FG when using cooler as mash tun

Thanks for the help jetmac Things to try on the next batches: 1 - Double check my hidrometer (maybe it decalibrated) 2 - Pre-heat mash tun 3 - Do a batch sparge with hot water to act as mash-out 4 - Stir the mash more often maybe every 5-10 min. I'm using a copper manifold that's the reason I...

Low FG when using cooler as mash tun

By the end of the mash (1hour) I'm at 149F. After vorlauf and sparging is that I go to the 140s. I'll try to do a batch sparge next time using the temp. profile you suggested. I was just wondering if other people using coolers have the same problem. Here in Brazil I'm the only one that I know...
