Dry yeast -Used 2 liter starter

I made a pale ale @ 1.050 OG, and decided to make a 2 liter starter with the SafeAle 05 dry yeast packet. I did this knowing full well it's against conventional wisdom just to see what the effects are myself. (Yeah, when I go to Chevy's and get the fajitas they tell me not to touch the hot plate...

    Lager Yeast

This is my 1st time making a lager, and here is the quick summary: -Took Wyeast 2308 Munich out of fridge, smacked, and saw that it started to swell within a few hours while I was brewing. -Pitched the yeast into 1 liter starter @ 48 F (based on Wyeast site yeast temp range = 48-56F)...

Triple Hopped? Was I that drunk?

I admit I had way too much to drink this weekend, but I could swear I saw a commercial (Miller?) that said it was "triple hopped." Was I hallucinating?

    Hop Storage (FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer)

I'm trying to freeze my hops using the FoodSaver brand vacuum sealer and the provided zip lock bags. The vacuum sealer seems to work, but after a day I check and air has reentered the packages. Anyone else have this problem or have a good fix ?

Am I going to ruin my taps?

I've recently been force carbing at 30 psi for about 36 hours with good results. If I leave the liquid line connected to the keg during this 36 hours am I going to ruin or shorten the life of the taps? (I guess it's good practice to keep it disconnected, but just curious...)

How much grain in your inventory ?

I just checked and I've got 160 lbs of grain (2 row, Victory, Munich, etc.) and I'm thinking of getting some more at the LHBS (~$0.85/lb if I buy in 50lb bags)... I'm just wondering on average what everyone is keeping on hand.

    Hop Pairing (Tettnang/Hallertauer)

I just received my bulk purchase from Hops Direct! Do these 2 hops pair well ? If so, can anyone suggest a recipe?

    Aeration Foam Problem

I'm using an aeration stone and aquarium pump to oxygenate my wort and it foams like a rabbid dog. I put some anti foam drops in the boiling wort and this totally got rid of the foam/boilover issue and seemed to carry over to the fermenter as the krausen didn't gush up into my airlock as usual...

    Delay in boil -any issues?

It's difficult for me to block out 5 consecutive hours on brew day, so I'm contemplating doing the mash/sparge this Friday night, then finishing the boil and the rest of the process on Saturday morning (or night?). The wort is going to sit in a covered kettle overnight prior to the boil, so am I...

    Yes, guys, size does matter...

I just completed my Sanyo keggerator conversion and was getting a glass of foam on every pour for the past week. Very depressing... I replaced the 5' standard tubing that came with the tower with 10' 3/16 ID tubing (7/16 OD). For some reason it took 24 hours, but now I'm getting perfect pours...

    Is my regulator working properly?

I just kegged my 1st batch last night and hooked up a dual gauge regulator. This is the 1st time I've ever done this, so I'm not sure if it's working correctly. When I turn the adjustment knob it will only decrease the pressure to about 60 lbs and the needle stops going further even with the...

    C02 Cost

I just got my C02 tank filled for the 1st time at a beverage dispensing company, so I was assured "beverage grade" gas. (They even carry some special gas for dispensing stouts like Guinness). The cost to fill up my 5lb tank was $22. Is this reasonable? Also, I'm sure it's been asked, but how...

    Gravity Calculation Help

I just did my 1st all-grain batch and have a question: I have a gravity reading from right after the sparge of say 1.04. I then boiled the 8 gallons of wort down to 5 gallons. Unfortunately, I don't have a gravity reading after the boil as my hydrometer broke. How can I figure out the post...

Cheers from SF Bay Area !

I just brewed my first all grain batch after brewing with extract for the past several months and have just converted a Sanyo minifridge into a 2 tap kegerator. Yeah, had to pass it off as an "investment" to the wife...Probably a better politician than brewmaster, but glad to be here! :rockin:
