Logistics and Legality of shipping beer to Afghanistan

For me, I always loved get my magazine subscriptions. My wife would send them over along with half a dozen other magazines about cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc. Made my day when I got that package in the mail. Other than that, beef jerky is a good choice. Favorite candy perhaps. If you are...

    Hot wort in better bottle

Do you lay them on their side or stand them upright? What about the airlock? This option seems very promising! Kris

Does a wind shield help with keeping heat?

Speaking from (in)experience in the scale of what you are after, but in the camping world, a wind screen around your stove or alcohol burner helps the efficiency immensely in windy conditions. I would definitely recommend using one. Kris

    Using P.E.T. Bottles for Beer

For the caps, are you just reusing the cap that came with the bottle, on say, as soda bottle or are you buying new caps from a brew store? I was just looking at a cap off a one liter bottle and I didn't see any kind of seal, that's why I'm asking. Plus, it'd be nice to have some plastic bottle...

    Good Red for first brew

I'm look for a good Red Ale kit for my first brew. I was eying Midwest's Irish Red kit and it seems to get pretty good reviews on their site. Does anyone have experience with this kit or can you recommend me a kit that you've had success with?! Thanks! Kris

Splitting 5 gallon batch into 1 gallon batches

Couldn't you have all 5 gallons in your brew pot, cool, pitch your yeast (assuming you are using only one type of yeast), and then divide from that point? Kris

A beginning brewers dissertation...reinventing the wheel, impatience, and overdrafts.

I can appreciate your desire to build everything. I have tried to do the same with other hobbies and came to similar realizations as you. In the end I had fun, spent way to much money that could have been used much more wisely, but I had fun and learned from it. Sometimes that wheel...

    Brewpub spent grain

When I lived in Little Rock, Arkansas, 3 of the micro brews there sold/donated it to local farmers for use as animal feed. Kris

New guy wanting to get started

I was thinking about starting out with a smaller batch my first few go around. A 2.5 gallon just to get the ball rolling. As far as the no home brew in Japan thing. It is one of those overlooked laws by the police, like lane splitting on a motorcycle. As far as the brew goes, as long as you...

New guy wanting to get started

Wow! Thank for the quick replies! I didn't even realize the kit didn't come with a sanitizer. I'll add that to the list. I had planned on buying How to Brew. I've been reading the first edition online, which has answered some questions, but I like having an actual book to reference. I'm...

    Hey everyone!

Thanks everyone for the kind welcomes! I've emailed a couple places and shipping shouldn't be too much of a problem. They have a law here about home brewing for the Japanese Nationals. Something about more than 1% alcohol is illegal. Since I don't live in the community, I don't have to worry...
