    Success!

I just thought I would share with ya'll that I have brewed my first truly successful beer. It is my fourth batch, and it is an English IPA...the others came out OK, but this one really reminds me of a Summit IPA, full of Cascade hops aroma and flavor. If anyone wants the recipe, let me know.

    Bottling question

So I just recently bottled an IPA batch (which tastes awesome btw) but had a quick question. I boiled 3/4 cup corn sugar in 2 cups of water ( per john palmer) and let it cool...i siphoned my beer into my bottling carboy and totally forgot to put the cooled water/sugar mix into the bottling...

    Harsh carbonation

No its definitely not gushing or anything. Like i said, it tastes and smells great at this point, but maybe its not the carbonation thats leading to the taste...maybe its just because its only been in bottles for one week...couple more weeks and im guessing it will taste a lot better than it...

    Harsh carbonation

Is it normal for the beer to have a bit of a harsh carbonation after a week in bottles? It smells great, and tastes great too...but the carbonation seems to be at a 'peak' right now or something. It is a nut brown ale with an FG around 1.013 or so. I primed with 3/4 cup corn sugar in 1 cup of...

    Bottle Conditioning

Ok, yesterday I just bottled my first batch of beer, a Nut Brown Ale. I boiled 3/4 cup of corn sugar in 2 cups of water, let it cool, added to my bottling bucket, siphoned beer into that, then bottled. I tasted one of em just to see how it was, it was flat, but it tasted pretty f'ing good for...

    yeast question

hey guys, ive been having a heck of a time with yeast on my first brew...i accidently killed the dry yeast doing a starter, so i didnt have yeast to put in the wort...so my wort is in the primary, and i bought more dry yeast today. i pitched it directly in the wort about 1 hour ago, and gently...

    Hoppy smell

My wort is currently in the primary (not beer yet because my yeast was dead, and I have to wait till Saturday to pitch it in there), but it looks good, it's a nut brown ale so its nice and dark. The smell, however, is overwhelmingly hoppy, can't smell any malt at all. Is this normal? I...

    killed yeast

i did exactly what john palmer said to do in his online book...i did the 1 cup pre boiled water, then added the yeast (this is when i killed it accidently)...then rehydrated it with a sugar/water mix...which would be the fermentable part (i didnt have any dry malt extract with me, so palmer...
