New England June 2015 Grain Buy

Was anyone shuttling closer to Hartford (or anywhere in CT)? Would be interested in 3-4 bags but may not be able to make the full drive depending on the delivery date.

    time for pumpkin beer!

I have heard it's best, and cleanest, to mash the pumpkin. Personally, the one time I tried it, I steeped it in a mesh bag with the crystal. Didn't lose much extra to the trub that way, and even then you can squeeze your wort out of what the pumpkin sucked up anyway (unless you're scared of...

My girlfriend. Help bring her to the good side of the Force

This approach sounds promising..."the beatings will continue until morale improves." I'm in a similar situation to most here. The lady friend likes Blue Moon and not much else, and although I don't think she's ever tried it, I'm willing to bet money that if I gave her an IPA she'd ask me how...

Beer improves over time. Is this true with IPAs?

Agreed with a bunch of prior posters, it's all preference. Crack a bottle after a few weeks and see how it goes. If it's still too green and you don't like the taste, let it sit a few more weeks, and next time you brew it, overhop it a bit (over-hop being an oxymoron to some) to let it mellow...

    A Few Bottles Short......?

I haven't tried because of all the advice not to, but there are a ton of "Growlers aren't meant to withstand the pressure of bottling!" topics out there... Now, if you could find a few spare swing-top's, that's a whole different story. The best piece of advice I can give, though, is to start...

Need Kirin or Sapporo or Orion Style Recipe Please

This is a complete guess, so I might be way off in saying this... I lived in Japan for 6 months, and I always thought that the taste of Kirin, Asahi, et al. was much different over there than the brews under the same label in the US. Part of me attributes it to the setting (and drinking the...

    Pumpkin Hefeweizen

FWIW, I just bottled a Punkelweizen very similar to the above (strangely similar, considering I searched for a recipe for a solid 2 weeks and found nothing). I used WLP380, but regardless I tried to shoot for the low end of the recommended temperature (kept mine at 67, might even go a few...

Not the same pumpkin question again

I might be blind, but how much pumpkin are you adding? Canned or fresh? I used canned pumpkin in an attempt to make a Pumpkin Dunkelweizen, and while I can't tell you how it turned out (6th day in primary), it did have a slight orange tint...of course as we all learned in 1st grade art class...

You ever just want to punch someone in the neck?

Amen to that. I only want to punch people in the neck when they try to punch me in the neck first for not drinking BMC... to quote Garden State, "Don't tease me about my hobbies. I don't tease you about being an a**hole."

You ever just want to punch someone in the neck?

I think part of it is people are just creatures of habit. Take coffee for example. My grandparents still drink Folgers instant coffee every morning, and I'm guessing it's not because they don't know Starbucks/Dunkin Donuts/etc exists. Coffee to them means boiling a pot of water and pouring it...

    Tomato in beer.....

As vague an answer as this will be, I think it will all depend on the profile of the tomato juice (what variety of tomatoes you used, any salt that may have been added, etc.) There are thousands of varieties of tomato plants, so I guess it's tough to say without having an idea what the juice...

    Hi from a Connecticutioner

Found and followed a recipe for an extract summer ale. Not sure how it will turn out, but I'm treating it as a learning experience first, and a taste experience second. Realized a little too late that my kitchen equipment wasn't the best for brewing, but a 60 qt stockpot is now in transit (one...

    Hi from a Connecticutioner

Hi all, Long time drinker, first time brewer. My first extract batch is 4 days the primary, and so far I think it's still on it's way to becoming beer... Love the forums, they've been a huge help. Look forward to learning from everyone here. :mug:

    Stock pot

Hi all. First post after attempting my first extract batch (3 days in primary so far), and after my first boilover incident, I ordered a 15 gallon SS pot from instawares.com However, looking at some of the retailer reviews after the fact, they look, well....less than stellar. Anyone ever have...
