Between Brews: Controlling Gas Fired Burners

I am very interested in the follow up article. I stared an automatic propane build this summer and ran into a stopping point when I realized I had not taken into account for the pilots. I now have to back track and see if the solenoids I purchased will work for my build since they have no pilot...

Budget HERMS System - Part Two

Looking good, I think I may make some changes to my initial plans. I had my burners initiating via the STC-1000/solenoid and was fine with this setup, however I like the idea of adding a switch that I can simple turn on the burner directly and bypass the STC-1000. I already had the switch in the...

Where do I place Temp Probe on automated system?

I was planning on placing the temperature probe in a T as shown in the pictures. The wires for the probe run into the back of the T and would be sealed in place with a compression fitting and an O ring. If I place this setup on the keg I would have to either add a quick connect or unscrew it...

Where do I place Temp Probe on automated system?

Thanks Binsiff, think I am leaning towards the probe being connected to the pumps(less hassle with wires and connecting and disconnecting ). I may as well add a thermowell to the side of the keg to watch mash temps in the center of the mash. Appreciate your advise.

Where do I place Temp Probe on automated system?

I have been trying to find the best place to add the temp probe for the STC-1000 to monitor temperature of HLT and Mash Tun. And to control the burner solenoids. I was thinking of locations and all have +'s and -'s just not sure which is best. I would get better temp readings up...

    STC-1000 controller box help

I have been building a new single tier brew stand and have decided to switch from 3 burners to a HERMS system. Now I have started adding a controller box and am a little stuck on where to place some stuff and what should be controlled. Here is a look at what I have so for. Sorry for all...

DIY Single Tier RIMS Brewstand for $500.00?

Added a copper coil to the HLT to eliminate the need for the middle burner. I know what your saying this is no longer a 500.00 build with nearly 25 feet of 1/2" flexible copper and all those attachments. Well you would be correct copper is not cheap unless you reuse an old...

DIY Single Tier RIMS Brewstand for $500.00?

So, I have started a second stand for a friend and this time I think I am going to make a few changes. Most likely I am going to change to a RIMS system and forget the middle burner. Here are a few pictures from New Years Day. This is the welded stand from Bed Frames Here is a shoot...

DIY Single Tier RIMS Brewstand for $500.00?

I found some good deals this weekend that could bring the cost of this down even more. The gas line I used for my burners cost me $96.00 for 4 gas lines but I could have purchased this instead. and it would have only been $78.00 not a huge savings but every bit counts. I would have only need...
