Converting Pilsner All Grain Recipe to Extract

Hey guys, I've been out of the brewing game for a while, so sorry if this is the wrong forum. I saw Northern Brewer had a great looking all grain pilsner recipe and I would like some help converting it to extract. Here's a link to the recipe.

Illinois Free Hops Crowns - St. Charles, IL pickup only

Free CTZ and Chinook crowns (yes you read that right, the full crowns) for pickup only in St. Charles, IL. The crowns were originally from Great Lakes Hops planted about 5 years ago. I started with 3 crowns of each, but once I dig them out I'm betting there will over a dozen good cuttings...

    Sediment Trapping Bottles

I was reading a packaging magazine today and came across these bottles: http://www.martinberasateguisystem.com The chamber at the bottom of the bottle collects sediment and holds it when you pour. In the article it said that it is suitable for some beer, which means something like...

Why the heck are there so many lurkers?

So I was perusing the contest thread (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f19/cross-promotion-large-giveaway-fermenter-mash-paddles-thermapen-206230/) and saw a bunch of entries with only 1 or maybe 2 posts. I was imaging how angry I would be if some person that had just joined the forum won the...

Any must have games during Steam Holiday Sale?

For those who don't know, Steam is an online store where you buy games and then download them. You can download the games to any computer you want as many times as you want, since your license is handled through a login ID. Every year they have a great holiday sale, and I was wondering if any...

    Need some bourbon advice

So SWIMBO is taking me to her parents' for Thanksgiving, and they traditionally have a spirits tasting. This year grandma decided on bourbon. Everyone is supposed to bring one to try, and I now nothing about bourbon. What's the Balvenie of bourbon ($30-40, but high quality)? What qualities...

Are all Barley Crusher Maltmill handles this poorly made?

So I just got my Barley Crusher Maltmill from AHS and was shocked by the quality of the handle. I know I shouldn't be to worried about it since it is just a handle, but for $125 I guess I was expecting something more. Are they all like this, or did I get a bad handle? A nice grease stain...

Is it possible that my polling place is in some guy's garage?

So I just looked at my voter registration card and the address is: John Doe Garage 221 Residential St There is no other Residential street in the whole city, and the address is a real address a couple houses down the street. Is it actually possible that my polling place is in John Doe's...

DME addition for Barley Wine, should I do a stepped addition?

I just ordered the American Barley Wine from AHS. It calls for 10lbs of malt extract, and 1lb of DME with Wyeast American Ale 1056. I'm going to be doing a starter for this, but I think that an OG of 1.087 will still be pretty tough for the yeast to chew through. Is there a benefit to adding...

Best way to finish with 5 gallons starting using a 5 gallon pot?

For my first try at AG I want to try AHS's Piloncillo Brown Ale by batch sparging in a 10gallon cooler. http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?products_id=12701 Although I don't know the exact recipe, it calls for 8.5lbs of base malt and 2lbs of specialty malt. What's the best...

I'm on a boat, or how to survive the brewing apocalypse

http://www.beveragedaily.com/Markets/Breweries-in-2030-could-be-forced-onto-ships-warns-SABMiller/ I found this in one of the trade publications I get at work. FTA: SABMiller has envisaged a “Marginal Survival” scenario for 2030 whereby breweries could be located on ships so beer makers...

How many people don't know about twisting bottles?

If you want to drain a bottle quickly, turn it upside down and give it a twist. It does the same thing as the vortex on a Miller Lite bottle. If you already knew this you are saying, "duh". If you didn't already know this I just cut your bottle washing time in half.

Force Carbing Draft at Home/Tap a Draft from CO2 Tank

Force carbing Draft at Home/Tap a Draft with cartridges seems like a pain, not to mention expensive. Here is my sub $3 solution to force carbing from a CO2 tank. Plastic Hose Barb, Ball Lock corny post o-ring, 1 gallon bottle cap with 3/8" hole Thread barb through o-ring, and push...

I've 6 or 7 3rd year rhizomes to give away. I've had them in buckets, but I think its about time they were put into the ground. I'm currently in an apartment, so that isn't happening any time soon. Local pick-up only. I've got: Cascade x3 (or more) Nugget Sterling Fuggle

Cost Per Serving: Does Homebrew Really Save Money?

Assuming a good craft beer costs $2, the numbers look pretty good as long as you keep going. I started homebrewing September 08, and after my last order total costs are up to ~$1,500. $1,500/10 months/ 30 days = $5 a day (or 1 beer at the bar/~2 craft brews at home) 15 x 5 gallon...

Short boil on an extract kit?

Is there any reason to boil longer than your first hop addition? I made an extract wheat kit with 1oz of flavoring hops at 15 min, and 1 oz of bitter orange at 5 min for bittering. My propane tank was about done, so I knew I would never get a full hour of gas (I can't buy by the pound, so a...
