    Corona Mill - Ideal Drill

This. It's all about the torque. I burned out a couple of cheap high speed, low torque drills that I had lying around before I broke down and bought a high torque drill.

Best way to use Temp Control probe

I totally forgot about this thread. Glad I looked back. Your quoted text is exactly what I would suggest and the reason I posed the question earlier. To the OP: I'm not sure I understand why you want to have the freezer and fermwrap working against each other. I agree with the quote...

Best way to use Temp Control probe

Did you insulate the probe, or was it just taped against the glass container? Also, I'm confused. Is your plan to have the freezer running at 40F while the FermWrap keeps the beer at fermentation temperature?

    WhirlFloc Stole My Wort

I agree. Just pointing out some other things to take into consideration. :mug:

    WhirlFloc Stole My Wort

Good point. Also, how well did you stir the wort after you mixed it with the water? Is there any possibility there could have been stratification with the higher density solution being on the bottom?

    WhirlFloc Stole My Wort

Without knowing your pre-boil gravity, I think it's tough to discern where your losses were, but the fact that 1.5 gallons(!) of wort went down the drain certainly couldn't have helped your efficiency. Do you have a kettle screen or false bottom on your boil kettle? I wouldn't have any qualms...

    Kettle valve screen

I think the kettle screens are cheap and sturdy enough that it makes sense to buy one. Brew on! :mug:

    Kettle valve screen

Yes, it needs to go on the inside. Check this out: http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?products_id=12687 There is also a 1/2 inch version depending on the size of the fittings for your ball valve. :mug:

Can we stop using Pop Psychology to define our brewing?

This is a good point, but English is a Germanic language. It's true that we have lexical borrowings from Latin languages, but the language itself is certainly not Latin based. :mug:

Beer Law: "While Brewing, Drink Beer"

This is my approach, as well. The few times I've brewed and drank together, I usually forget somethig, despite my brewday checklist. It was always something minor, but still.

Help on avoiding boil overs with 7.5 gallon kettle

Not if you hop both pots proportionally.

Help on avoiding boil overs with 7.5 gallon kettle

I usually go the Fermcap route, but this works well, too.

    Hopsdirect Quality (not price) Issue

True, that's an option. For some reason, though, I never had much luck with those bags. They never held a seal for me. Other people have had great luck with them. Go figure. :cross:

    Hopsdirect Quality (not price) Issue

Mason jars are reusable and I don't need to buy a foodsaver or similar machine to use them.

    Hopsdirect Quality (not price) Issue

I recently made an all Cascade APA with 9 month old hops from Hopsdirect. The beer was wonderfully flavorful and fragrant - the hops didn't taste as if they were of inferior quality or as if they had aged one bit. For full disclosure: I keep my hops in the freezer in vacuum sealed mason jars.

American Pale Ale, my first creation

Yea, the easiest thing to is plug everything into some software. If you don't want to drop any money on it, then just go to the Beer Calculus link that I posted earlier. It'll calculate everything for you.

American Pale Ale, my first creation

Agreed, but my goal was merely to give a general overview since the OP had no familiarity with the subject.

American Pale Ale, my first creation

Agreed. Also, don't forget to adjust the AA% of the hops in the software to match those that you are using.
