    Well, Hello there!!!

I'm in Kentucky. Truthfully, our Winter wasn't any longer than normal. Just seemed like it to me.

    Well, Hello there!!!

No doubt. I was pretty excited to see that little guy this week. After the long winter I was wondering when they might start popping up.

    Hop addition question

It was definitely a training exercise alright. For about 3 minutes I was scrambling. I read the same thing about aroma being low. The more I contemplate the more I think I will just see how it turns out. Thanks a bunch.

    Hop addition question

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah, I panicked a little and didn't even think about pulling the hop basket. I was just trying to remedy the situation before I went too long. Wasn't smart enough to think of that I guess. I was never really worried about the beer being undrinkable or...

    Hop addition question

Good deal. Sounds like a plan to me. Appreciate the help.

    Hop addition question

Thanks. Yeah, I didn't figure that it would make too much of a difference, but just wanted to make sure. I guess now the question, how much hops and what kind? Maybe, 0.5 oz or a little less of Hallertauer for about 3 or 4 days????

    Hop addition question

Ok. So, I made a mistake with my hop addition and need some advice, thoughts, projections about how my beer might turn out from folks that may have made a similar mistake. My initial recipe is for a Vienna Lager that I want to have ready for early Spring. 5 gal recipe: 4.0 lbs of Munich 3.0...

My First Attempt At Growing Hops.

Quick update. My Cascade is looking nice at the moment. I didn't include any pictures of my Centennial because I'm somewhat embarrassed. I'm not sure what's going on with them. I swear, it seemed like I had some hop cones that were ready to be picked by mid June. Granted, and...

My First Attempt At Growing Hops.

My Centennial is coming along nicely!!! The Cascade has a ton of burrs, but no hop cones yet. Everything is looking great though.

My First Attempt At Growing Hops.

The heat in the buckets is definitely something I worry about. That was one of the warnings when I began reading about using buckets. I was going to paint the them black, but that was a big no-no as well obviously. Haha. They are covered by some shade during a small portion of the day so...

My First Attempt At Growing Hops.

My first visible "baby" hop cones. These are from the Centennial. Oh boy!!! This is getting exciting!

My First Attempt At Growing Hops.

Well, as I said earlier in the post, I'm not quite sure what to expect. It seems like mine are getting at it pretty well. Of course, I have nothing to compare it to, but time will tell.

My First Attempt At Growing Hops.

Those things popped out in about a day. I checked on them the day before and I didn't see a thing. Now they are all over the place. Both plants have really done well so far. They are right at two months old and they are about to head up the line!!!

My First Attempt At Growing Hops.

Is this what I think it is?!?!

My First Attempt At Growing Hops.

Yeah, I guess they could do that. If they do, I'll comply, but I'm going to let them run for the time being. I have built a makeshift trellis that will allow for about a 20' run of hops and then tied onto the pole about 10'-12' up. Maybe they won't get that big the first year. We'll see I guess.

My First Attempt At Growing Hops.

Yeah, I think I'm just going to let them grow. Maybe trim some of the bottom leaves just to keep air moving and to limit bugs. Otherwise I'm going to let them take off. I would prefer to grow them in the ground but I have some pretty poor soil here. Very, very wet. This is basically just...

My First Attempt At Growing Hops.

Well, I'm not 100% sure since this is my first experience in growing hops, but that Centennial looks like it to me since it only has the one shoot that has taken off like a rocket. The Cascade has 3 or 4 shoots however.

My First Attempt At Growing Hops.

Quick update: The Cascade has begun to bine to the bamboo. My Centennial is approximately 4 ft tall now!!!

My First Attempt At Growing Hops.

Thank you so much. Yeah, the soil on my property is not the greatest. Very, very wet. I'm afraid that I will have to resort to raised beds or something moving forward.
