    Bready taste

I have made a melomel, using sweet cherries. It has been fermenting now for a month. I sampled it and it has a "bready" flavor. Anyone ever run into this? It is not infected.

    Prolonged fermentation

Ok, I wanted to try to make "vikings blood" mead which is more of a melomel I guess since it is mead fermented with cherries. So, at Walmart, I found they have 80 oz jugs of pure honey for 12 dollars. I bought 2. I bought about 4 lbs frozen sweet cherries and pureed them. I mixed the 2 jugs of...

    Yeast too old?

I have found a starter that was in my beer refridgerator for 3 months. It got moved to the back behind some stuff and never noticed it as I switched to a different yeast and have a couple flasks. The starter wort is nice and clear and no funk growth in it. Is it still useable?

Help on making an Australian/NZ beer

Can anyone steer me in a good direction for a good base malt and yeast to use for an IPA beer but with Aussie/Kiwi ingredients. The hops are the easy part, if you can find them.

    Yeast Starter Question

Ok, I made a 2L starter of 1056. Now if I take the sediment from that 2L starter and add it to a fresh 2L starter, will I get the same amount of yeast as if I had made 1 4L starter? And if train A leaves LA at 11 traveling 55 mph and train b leaves Washington DC at midnight at 75 miles an...

    Banana Bread Beer

Hello all. I brewed my version of banana bread beer today. I mashed 7 lb of bananas and put that into my mash. I was worried as it seemed to get jelly like at the end and I didnt have any rice hulls in it, but I sparged just fine. 5 gallons 6 lb pale malt 3 lb wheat malt 1 lb Biscuit...

    Clarifying Mead

Ok, I am over a month into my first mead and I already transferred to secondary. I have never used a clarifying agent even in in my beers, but when I tasted this batch, I was amazed at how well it came out. I am thinking of entering it in competition. So my question is what clarifying...

    She wants my brewery

Ok, after you read this, you'll know why I am leaving her. She is evil. She wants my homebrewery in the divorce. She doesnt brew, hates beer, and claimed my homebrewing hobby as an obsession which drove us to divorce. But she says since the household money paid for it, she is entitled to at...

Is HBT trying to tell us something?

Ok, am I the only one who sees the irony of having a drug and alcohol detox center advertise on these forums? Or is the site giving us hints? LOL As I like to say, I dont have a drinking problem, its only a problem when the beer and homebrew runs out.

    Braggott Question

Ok, I am an AG brewer and just branching out into mead. I made my first mead, a simple semi-sweet mead. While reading up on mead, I came across Braggott which has piqued my interest. My question is this: Can you make Braggott by mixing beer (already made) with mead? Also, if brewing it...

Should I use a high gravity yeast?

Ok I made a kitchen sink brew today. I mashed 6 lb golden promise, 2 lb Munich, 2 lb Carared, 4 oz roasted barley then I added in 1 lb wheat malt and 4 lb pilsen DME. I boiled it for 2 hours. I added in alot of hops (lost count of ounces). I ended up with 5 gallons of dark brown wort with a...

I dont know what I just brewed

Ok, I decided to clean out my brew materials. So I threw into my MLT 6 pounds Golden promise, 2 pounds Munich, 2 pounds Carared, 4 ounces roasted barley. I was low on my mash temp so it rested at 147. I overdid my sparge water so I ended up with 8 gallons in my BK. So I added 1 pound pilsen DME...

    Mash Time Question

Hello When I mashed in, I was below my target temp, so I boiled some extra water and added it in. It took me like an extra 10 or 15 minutes. So instead of mashing for 60 minutes at my target temp, I was at 144 for 15 minutes then I went for another 60 minutes at 148. Will this affect my...

Ok, I am going to switch from a cooler to a ketle with false bottom for a MLT. Looking at the Blichhman boilermaker kettle as it has everything besides the false bottom and their false bottom got great reviews. I do 5 gallon batches and dont plan on going to 10 gallon.
