My first attempt at spruce beer.

I had subscribed to a couple other threads. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/17th-century-french-beer.166923/#post-3774117 I froze a couple pounds of spruce tips from a (black spruce) tree we cut down in our back yard in the spring a couple years ago. The grain bill was 22lbs of maris...

Connecting my corny keg at a wedding event.

I have to adapt my cornelius kegs to their commercial fittings. I assumed I had 1/4" NPT female to tie into his stuff. Apparently there's a thing called "beer thread"? I have the wrong parts. This is a picture of the venue's end of the thing.

    NEIPA - for my brother...

...a reformed Bud Light drinker. He gave me examples to shoot for, of which I am also familiar: "Toppling giant - Goliath. Deuschettes fresh haze or Voodoo Ranger juicy haze" ..well, he got close anyway - Toppling Goliath - King Sue. My search here was "fruitless ". I found two threads...

Wild Rice Ale - because I don't have a lagering chamber.

I have a stockpile of wild rice that I've gotten for gifts. I've made stuffing with it. My family enjoys it. That being said, we used to vacation up in Ely MN. There was a small micro that opened up on main street. The head brewer tried a wild rice brew and reportedly knocked it out of the...

    That other beer

I poured a second batch of grain on top of my first batch and mashed the whole thing a second time - to use up some old ingredients, the malt and the corn. ...and to have some beer on hand.... :fro:

Copper Kettle Mexican Chocolate Stout Recipe

My wife found this on Facebook - linked from a different stie and asked me to brew a batch. The temp seems low. I usually don't go lower than 154F.. I also have never used peppers. Does the heat get lowered during the brewing and fermentaion? I've had one pepper beer - once. It was good...

I drink too many New Belgium products.

Summit too, short and squatty. Summit has some great beers though. There is a competition I am thinking of entering. I'm starting to clean bottles for capping. The contest rules are that the entries shouldn't be in an identifiable bottle. Not a huge problem, just reflecting. Some of the...

BJCP styles - Red Vs Amber - drinking characteristics as seen by Joe Average

I could dig into the style sheets nad read up, but what I'm considering is: How far apart are the Irish Red, that is the only beer to actually have the word red from The Amber (also only one listed) as far as drink-ability. I like most Reds. I find most Ambers drinkable but boring. I like...

Left Hand Milk Stout - my try.

I read all thirty-nine pages: ADX's Left Hand Milk Stout clone I had a request to make this. I'm sitting here having a glass of my EFP clone right now. I think I may have mashed too hot. It's really sweet. ...only been in the bottle two days - can't tell. Anyway - I think I'll give...

What conditions cause autolysis - yeast death and rupture?

From another thread.... Hmm, I thought I had, but maybe it was something else. I should try an experiment. If it is an actual occurrence, it should be able to be duplicated, right? I have a friend who is well read on beer in general, he mentioned it to me. He described it and I...

Looking for a Foster's recipe and yeast sugggestions

This thread got me thinking: Beer that got you into [brewing] beer ...there should be related threads with titles relating to mine showing up at the bottom of the page. I was down visiting my friend who runs the local home brew store. I mentioned that I'd like to do a Foster's Lager clone. He...

What can be used to stop infection at bottling?

Test ...sanitation.... I've seen a couple threads today that have had people talking about things turning bad in the bottle. I realize that would preclude bottle carbing with yeast. ...just wondering what results I'd get if I started a thread with that title. ...and possibly...

Fermentor Experiment - with one yeast substitution

I usually brew higher gravity beers and smaller batches. My Boddington's Bitter is taking up three of my four 5 gallon HDPE buckets. I don't have enough fermentor space. A just boiled another batch Scalded Dog (Two Hearted clone) at 16-1/2 gallons. I am going to improvise. -(1) 5 gallon...

    I dropped my six pack.

We were grocery shopping for the Memorial Day weekend. We picked up a decent selection of beer. A while later I lost my cool. One was a six pack of Smithwick's. I heard it tip over in the back seat of the F250. My wife said don't open that door. ...yeah, right. At the next store, a...
