    Blowout pics

Was experimenting with a semi open fermentation of a dunkelweizen in a corny keg. Throw some tin foil on top ... didn't leave enough head space obviously. Last night was worse visiually but didn't have time to clean until after work today. Replaced foil with lid/blowoff. I'm sure people have...

    Brewers friend mash thickness

My computer recently crashed so I'm currently without access to beersmith, been using brewers friend on my tablet. My question is even though I've set it to metric, it still lists mash thickness as qt/lb. I'm not sure if this is a glitch because if I set it at say 2.5 which is where I'd want it...

    Leaking wort chiller

Just realized my wort chiller was leaking while I was chilling my beer and lost all volume I had boiled off with fresh water from the tap. Any suggestions? Or just dump it all and start again. I could boil it down again but I would lose all hops.

    Cararoma brunwater

Would cararoma go under Crystal or roast. I read that cara- should be crystal but but the dark colour of cararoma means it comes up as a red box if I don't set it to roasted malt. Also drastically changes ph prediction depending on which I choose Edit:didn't convert ebc to lovibond when...

    Beer in lines

Put a beer on tap, pulled a couple .. figured it wasn't ready want to let it sit a bit. Should I leave the lines attached? How long is too long to have beer sitting in the lines.

    Water chem ails

I have changed brewing process recently to using distilled water and building profile from scratch using brew salts. Honestly I feel my beers tasted better prior to doing this using just my tap water but since I was unable to get a reliable water profile from where I am I figured that was the...

    Ugh prv was open

Fermenting a pale ale in a 5 gallon corny keg. Went to closed transfer today and found the qr was open on the fermentor. All I can think I accidentally twisted the ring while taking a gravity sample a couple days ago. Just out of habit I purge after first putting gas on it so I definitely would...

    Brun water error

Maybe this is something easily remedied, read the brun water instructions like 3 times and inputed my information numerous times. Cannot get it to give me a mash ph, just says #name? Using open office if that changes anything. It's getting a bit infuriating. I know I've tried it in the past...

    Infection

https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/really-easy-fruit-sour.675345/ Followed this recipe, second time I've done it. Opened up the fermentor to rack and that looks like a pellicle to me. Any thoughts? Should I be worried? Last time.i brewed this no pellicle and I dont want to have replace...

    Corny keg question

So I've been brewing for a few years and kegging for a few months. I'm currently heating strike water for a beer I plan to ferment in a corny keg. My question is this: for the keg I'm intending to use, I need to use co2 to properly seal it. But I'm using a blowoff style setup during...

    Consistent over attenuation

Not sure this is the correct space for this but last 3 brews I made have been heavily over attenuated ( all around 89-92 percent). One a galaxy pale ale with nottingham mashed at around 148 -149 ... missed my temp but I dont think that would account for it getting that high. One a mixed...

another thread on co2 loss ...

So this has been my first time kegging, first keg. I set it and forget it two weeks ago at 12 psi, prior to doing so soap tested the entire system for leaks (found none) and everything has been fine, it held and carbonated the beer. At one point I checked the gauges and it had raised to 15, I...

    Mold in one bottle?

Sorry for the giant photos, not sure this is in the right place. First brew after almost a year early January; Fermented 2 weeks, Bottled without issue, no strange smells or particulate/mold in the fermentor ... bottles been sitting for 3 weeks ... as far as I can tell this is the only bottle...

    brewing with brett

Ok, so this is my third biab all grain. Third beer ever actually. It's been hot as hell where I live so I figured it would be a good time to get a little funky and brew up a saison. Found a recipe I liked hit the brew shop. Local shop owner asked if I wanted to go traditional or off the rails a...

    water volumes

100% newb alert, so bare with me please. Maybe I'm missing something here but I'm trying to come up with a definitive water volume for a biab no sparge brew. I want 10 litres in the fermenter, grains will absorb .7, .8/L since I'm squeezing the bag. Hop pellets I assume is almost nothing...

    Temperature

Was planning on brewing my first brew this weekend, unfortunately time didn't allow it. It's beginning to be summer where I'm at and I have no temperature control in my apartment. The more I read about how temp affects fermentation the more hesitant I am to brew in case the resulting temp...

    First Brew Ever

So, a friend recently gifted me his homebrew set up. Nothing fancy, but absolutely everything I would need to start brewing in a bag immediately. Always wanted to brew, never tried before. Was recommended to skip extract and go straight to all grain and that works for me...
