British Brown Ale Nut Brown AG

To all those who’ve brewed this; Did this beer come out cloudy as anything for you? Did it clear up? I’m a clear freak,I love being able to read through my finished beers. However, I brewed this and just can’t seem to get it to clear up. Nothing new with any of my usual brewing procedure. Mash...

Ah yes, you're right. Well spotted, I missed that. So go with the Centennial & Amarillo variation you'd say?

Different versions of Jamil's Evil Twin?

Hi there, I plan on brewing Jamil's Evil Twin as my next batch, however, having trouble deciding between which recipe to follow. The versions on Mr Malty and the AHA website are made with Centennial & Amarillo The versions on the NB clone and in Jamil's book brewing classic styles (called...

I had a hunch the solution might've been as simple as that lol. Thanks

Taking an FG reading from pressurized fermentation

Hi all, Ill be doing my first pressurized fermentation soon and it just dawned on me that surely once fermentation is complete and you go to take the FG reading, will the carbonation not throw off hydrometer readings? If so, how are you guys taking FG readings from pressurized fermentations...

Fermzilla all rounder + Fermentasaurus snub nose

Hi all, does anyone have experience with both the fermenters in the title? I want to switch to a pressurised fermenter so I can have the option to both ferment as normal or under pressure if I so wish. I’d also like to move to closed transfer and also I like the fact that I’d be able to cold...

Struggling to find Alkalinity of my water source

Hi @VikeMan sorry me again. So I now know the pH of my water is 7.3. So how do I now work out my bicarbonate value?

    Grainfather (220v) Equipment Profile

Do you know if these are accurate? I remember a friend of mine saying the Beersmith one wasn't good for him, but this was some time ago now. Perhaps the stock profiles are just as good nowadays and I'm just looking to fix things that aren't broke!

    Discrepancies in recipe when importing

Bingo.. His BH efficiency is set 3% lower than mine so that explains it. Thanks!

    Discrepancies in recipe when importing

Hi all, I'm trying to brew an old favourite of mine, its a zombie dust clone from the BS recipe collection. I now use Brewfather instead of Beersmith so I'm trying to import the recipe into BF and then once scaled this is where things seem weird.. Here is the recipe I'm trying to brew, with the...

    Grainfather (220v) Equipment Profile

Hi there, Recently purchased a GF that I'll be putting to use this weekend along side Brewfather software. Just trying to set up my equipment profile to the best of my ability without actually going through a brew day. My question is, does anyone have a reliable GF profile that they use that I...

Struggling to find Alkalinity of my water source

Ok great, thanks. Last question if you don't mind.. Is my water here a bit too hard for brewing my preferred styles (APA's, IPAs, Red/Amber ales). It seems a little high from what I remember being my old targets, but I'm far from an expert.

Struggling to find Alkalinity of my water source

Thank you for the swift response! I'm sorry, the software I'm using actually calls for Bicarbonate. So that would be the 286 ppm you mentioned? So does the above look correct? Ignore the Ph level its a guess as I cant see ph levels and won't be able to get to my ph reader until tomorrow.

Struggling to find Alkalinity of my water source

Hi there, I'm finally in my new home and can get back to brewing again after a long break. I'm just trying to put together my water profile for the new area I'm living in but my water report doesn't contain Alkalinity or Bicarbonate levels as far as I can see... Here's my local areas report...

    Bit confused!

I use RO water and build individual water profiles. Nope, grain mill was set the same and sparged as usual. Only difference was I was able to completely empty the mash tun due to the newly installed bag. As for the SS buckets, i gave both a clean with a detergent followed by about a 45min -...

    Bit confused!

Im at a loss then! Literally no idea whats happened. Perhaps my malt provider has had some dodgey malt?

    Bit confused!

Nope didnt squeeze it, however, as its completely filtered I was able to drain pretty much the whole volume of liquid into the kettle. Before I was leaving about 1/4 - 1/3 of a gallon of wort in the mash tun as this was the point that particles started coming through into the kettle. Perhaps the...

    Bit confused!

So my beers are usually always crystal clear, like read the newspaper through the glass clear. I recently upgraded my brewery in two ways. One, I swapped out my fermenters with SS brewtech stainless steel buckets. Two, I got my mash tun lined with a bag. The bag allowed me to get much better...

    Holding Mash Temperatures

Depending on your kettle, you may scorch the bag with the heat. If it has a cladded bottom then there's no issue. A way around would be to just make sure your bag isn't sitting against the bottom.
