Accidentally Brewed 4 Gallons Instead of 5...Oops

I'm working on a blonde ale and apparently on brew day when I added water to get it to 5 gallons, I...umm...got it to 4. My brew bucket has lines on it and I suppose I got it to the wrong line. When I went to transfer it to the secondary I noticed my mistake and added another gallon of water...

    Beer Not Dispensing At All

I know this has been asked 1,000 times before but each time it seems to be a different issue. So basically I can’t get beer to dispense at all. I had a similar problem earlier and temporarily fixed it by connecting the gas to the out post but that doesn’t work now. It isn’t a clog because I...

Underestimated How Much Extract I’d Need

Thanks. My batch is a bit hoppier than I was intending so I’m ok with diluting it just a bit. I really should have consulted beer smith before doing this but I’ll look at brewers friend.

Underestimated How Much Extract I’d Need

I underestimated how much malt extract I’d need for a 5 gallon batch. I had a 3.3 lb can of Munton’s light LME and a one pound bag of light DME. I figured I might be low so I added a half cup of sugar but I don’t think it will help much. According to what I’ve looked at online I’m looking at...

    Beer not Dispensing

Yes I am. EDIT: I put some Co2 into the keg via the out post instead of the in post and heard bubbling. Turn it off after a few seconds. That seems to have fixed the problem and I'd recommend OP do the same.

    Beer not Dispensing

I'm having the same problem. I can't get anything to come out at all. I took a nail and pushed in the poppet valve and foam sprayed everywhere in a 10 foot radius. It's under about 15 psi at the moment. I don't have a kegerator or keezer yet so it isn't frozen and I didn't dry hop it either. Any...

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

I’m sure it’s just the style but I could not finish Weihenstephaner Vitus. It tasted so bad. I’m sure it’s not a bad beer but it’s style just isn’t for me.

Couple Of Questions About Regulators And Co2

I’m new to kegging and only have YouTube vids and threads here on HBT to go off of. I have a couple of quick questions: Why is there a metal piece on the threading of my pressure adjustment knob on my regulator? (See pics below) Is it to keep the knob from moving once I set it? Also, I’ve heard...

Collecting Wild Yeast: Would This Work?

I had an idea where I would dissolve some table sugar into boiling water, and collect the cooled, sugary water in a large mason jar, then take the mason jar out into the woods (away from critters) to sit a few days. I would then wash whatever I collected and pitch it in the next batch. I would...

    Adding Finings After Ferm/Before Bottling?

Anyway I can quickly pour the finings in the bucket and wait a week or two before bottling or will that expose it to too much oxygen?

    Adding Finings After Ferm/Before Bottling?

I've got an Amber ale that's been in the fermenting bucket for about 2 1/2 weeks and I'm thinking about bottling at the three week mark. I don't have a carboy to do a secondary but I would like to get the batch as clear as I can. Can I add some fining agents during the bottling process to help...

    Should I End Fermentation?

I'm making a small batch blackberry melomel, and the airlock has been bubbling slowly for exactly one week. I'm worried that the yeast will consume all sugars and that I will end up with a rather dry mead. Should I go ahead and add some potassium sorbate?

Brewer's Best American Light Ale. Unfortunately it looks to be mislabeled as a lager on Untappd.

    Secondary Ferm. in Primary Bucket?

I'm currently fermenting an American Light ale from Brewer's Best, and since I am wanting this beer to be as similar to an American light lager as possible, I'm wanting to do a secondary to help clear it up a bit. The problem is I don't have a carboy so I'm thinking after 2 weeks I will transfer...

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Milwaukee Special Reserve has got to be the most cheaply made P!$$water I've ever ingested.

Why is my IPA so bitter?

He's right. It's better to wait. The breakdown of the hops you are referring to happens after a matter of months, not weeks. It is better to let it bottle condition a bit.
