    bottling from keg

I only bottle from the keg if I'm taking beers to a party or drinking within a day or 2.

can beer sit on yeast/trub too long?

no, different kegs. they do get a total break down and cleaning before each use. I do have the white silicone rings for the lid. new rings on all the posts. the red ones. might be silicone too. they were all bought before I saw posts about the evils of silicone. Not sure I buy into the...

can beer sit on yeast/trub too long?

the recent 4 such batches that come to mind...all fresh dry yeast pitch. and all 4 different styles. high 40s low 50s OG. upper 70s low 80s storage (summer time)

can beer sit on yeast/trub too long?

I would think so. I have yeast harvests in mason jars. sometimes over a year old. open the jar and sniff test says "fine". I make decent beer with that stuff.

can beer sit on yeast/trub too long?

seems kinda random. I reuse yeast often, sometimes several generations. But it's happened with fresh pitch too. Different styles. Some kegs off taste at the beginning so possibly something with that batch. But I've had other kegs that notably changed over the course of time. Recently a...

can beer sit on yeast/trub too long?

I've had some beers that I felt kinda "turned" after a while of have an "off" taste. Thinking might have off flavors coming from long term contact with the yeast cake. Some beers do sit at room temps for a couple few months before getting into the kegerator. I'm currently fermenting and...

How long does uncrushed grain last in a container?

years and years...if kept cool and dry.

    run the pump overnight?

the pump probably draws very little. I mash 10 hours while at work. the pump runs the whole time. keeps mash temps uniform.

    getting oxyclean residue off ???

vinegar worked. not straight but about one gallon vinegar to 2 gal water and soaked 30 minutes....flipped keg in bucket to soak the top half.

    getting oxyclean residue off ???

    getting oxyclean residue off ???

so, i was soaking some kegs with oxyclean...left it in there a few days and now have a chalky film that is difficult to remove... anything that will easily clean it off? pretty hard to get my arm all the way into the keg to scrub it off.

Thinking of going to a simpler brew system from my current 3 "pot" system.

well...here are some pictures from inside the Vevor...can anyone compare this to the more expensive ones? The pump was much more robust than I expected. My homemade system has a tiny pump running on a cell phone charger.

    grease for electrical connections

Here is another view angle of the multi tap receptacle that shows how minimal the contact area is...avoid these type extension cords for high current use.

    grease for electrical connections

here is a comparison of the female receptacle designs. one type has much more contact surface than the other. They are exactly the same brand and gauge. only one is a single outlet and the other was a 3 outlet. I suspect most triple/multiple tap extension cords will use the bad design...I...

    grease for electrical connections

the immersion heater that fused to the extension cord...it's basically permanently connected. And it's not for my brewing anyway. I just now have a "longer" power cord for that heater... The other extension cord was a "triple tap". Now I don't use the middle receptacle anymore. But it is no...

    grease for electrical connections

I would have to see the inside of the Leviton plug to judge the connection capability. was at Lowes yesterday...looked at their heavy duty Ulilitec brand ext cords... the single plug ones had good female receptacles...the triple taps had crappy receptacles with minimal contact points. Very...

120v to mash, then propane to boil?

if you can shield the wiring and such, maybe set the burner on low while using 120v in parallel with propane? basically, just a small propane boost to reach boil? Once at/near boil, you can cut the propane and go. 120v will achieve boil...just takes a while. but once it's there all you are...

    grease for electrical connections

now that I think about it....both....actually three different cords have fused with various 1500 watt heaters....all from Harbor Freight. they were 12 gauge "heavy duty" with the crappy female blade design.

    grease for electrical connections

yes, impossible to take apart. the wiring is sealed cause it's submersible. but that is not the issue. It was strictly at the connection plug. anyway, the heater may use a 16 gauge cord but I'm using 10 and 12 gauge extentions. thats an "orange extension cord" in the picture...those are...
