    Birch sap hop water

I recently tapped a few trees for the first time, something I've wanted to do for a while as I'm into foraging and it always seemed like a cool thing to do. My intention was to boil it down to syrup but I realised I was getting a hell of a lot of liquid from the 8 trees i tapped plus the first...

    Uk hop buy

Hey I am doing a group buy on the UK version of this sub of some hops. I will repackage into 250g vac sealed bags of pellets all 2020 or 21. Cost price basically plus postage I'll probably round up to a fiver to cover packaging but I will post the invoice so you can work out what the costs are...

    asking for a friend

Say someone had been drunk and lazy and decided to add some extra Candi syrup to a conical fermenter but couldn't be bothered to do it properly and just poured it in as a thick heavy syrup which sunk to the bottom and it was obviously still sitting down there in syrup form as evidenced by...

    What's going on here?

I brewed a ryepa type thing last night, first thing I noticed was it was very hard to get all the grain in the tun, but it was a lot in the recipe.. this lead to a thick mash that got stuck, and ended up being a very long sparge. Anyway I never took a reading, which isn't unusual as my proscess...

    Temperature question

Hi, came back home to find the probe on my fermentation chamber had slipped out and it was about five degrees too hot in there. Turned it down to just under the upper limit for the yeast but then I thought maybe it'd be better to leave it a bit hotter so the variation was less? What you reckon?

Medical beer. For falling down with.

I'm currently trying to find co2 cartriges in Ireland for a wedding my beer is fuelling, and it occurred to me that nitrous oxide is actually cheaper, and then I thought, surely some damn fool has 'carbonated' beer with laughing gas? Doubt It'd do much, I know that helium beer video was nonsense...

    I don't believe in gravity

I mean I get that gravity is the effect of matter moving through warped four dimensional spacetime, my problem here is gravity in the homebrew sense. Cos we don't measure gravity we measure density surely.. Or does it refer to the gravitas of the resulting beer? Higher Beers being more serious...

Correlation between dissolved oxygen and humour tolerance

I've noticed a certain relationship between proponents of the subject of lodo brewing and a general excitement and intolerance of opposing views, again having my relevant but slightly irreverent suggestions of brewing in space or having fish in the mash to scrub O2 deleted as off topic, which...

    O2 and neipa exbeeriment

After noticing as others have the rapidity of o2 degradation on neipa style and hoppy beer in general, I decided to do science.. So I brewed a mega hoppy but not particularly bitter beer with a reasonable dose of flaked grains. Fermented in ss cronical and transfered by co2 to water purged kegs...

    Kettle soured blaeberry wit

Thinking of doing a kind of blaeberry lemon wit, and want a bit of sourness to balance out the fruit, so thought of doing a light kettle souring. Don't want it really overtly sour though and want it to still taste quite clean. What sort of ph should I aim for and what time souring should I...

    kolsch yeast observation.

brewed a kolschish smashish ale a week ago today, about 5 percent, airated slightly by putting it a couple times and pitched a two or three month old single pack of wlp (that's been in the post in a heatwave) into one 5gal batch and one Edinburgh ale into the other, both been fermenting at 19c...

    cheap job lot hops UK?

I'm probably going for American grown centennial for about £20 per kilo shipped or Amarillo for about 25-30 if I remember right anyone interested let me know. I could split the packets. it's pellets and...

    Spruce caboose

Fermenting a batch of saison with what was going to be Spruce tips but they weren't out yet so ended up being spruce buds and ends of needles. Also primrose flowers. French saison yeast pilsner and spelt. Anyway I've since been sampling various conifer leaves for dry hopping purposes and apart...

hi. brewed a kind of experimental lambic thing with the last of my vienna malt some flaked and malted wheat and a bit of aromatic and special x, and split half with wyeast lambic blend and half with some trappist yeast and an old pack of gigayeast sour cherry funk which had partially frozen so...

    accidental hoppy sour

made a pretty aromatically hopped neipa recently and split it half on farmhouse funk and half on a english yeast but there must have been some lacto b hiding in the bucket despite a bleach rinse and all the usual cleaning because three weeks later its surprisingly sour with that distinctive...
