    Length of time for dry-hopping

LOL...so funny story...I once forgot to dry hop my IPA and I was ready to keg. I had a few homebrews that day and got flustered about forgetting to dry hop in primary and I went went ahead and racked the beer to the keg and without thinking about the hop bag, threw the hops right in the keg. I...

Question RE Immersion Chilling and Whirlpooling

Thank you for everyone's input! I will stir away and not worry about the trub not settling after it's cooled down. I should have posted this about 15 batches ago!

Red rye IPA. What do you think.

Rye will certainly help, but I like my beers to have a real defined head that will leave a mustache long after the first sip. Carapils or carafoam will help as an insurance policy. Just a little more backbone. They won't contribute fermentable sugars, so in my mind, there isn't much to lose...

Red rye IPA. What do you think.

That sounds like a delicious IPA! Great hops too. Agree with Raoul above. Throw in 13oz or so of either carapils or carafoam to help boost body and give the beer a nice creamy head.

    Filtering Out Hops

Hop bags are fine for multiple additions. The bag pulls tight with a drawstring. I tie the drawstring after I pull thg bag shut to the handle on my kettle to easily add more when its time. Also, by tying to the handle you keep the bag near the top so it should be well out of the way of any...

    SMaSHing Plan - 5 in 1

This. Great suggestions @kharnynb. Maybe instead of a mosaic use a classic like a cascade or centennial. Mosaic, in my mind, is in the citra/amarillo class. Centennial is a dual purpose bittering and aroma hop depending on the hop schedule. I just bought a pound of them from Farmhouse...

Question RE Immersion Chilling and Whirlpooling

So...I have seen many threads on this using the search function, but can't really find the one to answer my question. I use an immersion chiller to cool my wort. It takes anywhere from 40-50 minutes to cool it down just letting it run with cool water for the first half and ice water for the...

    Filtering Out Hops

Use a hop bag to keep a good bit of the hop sludge out of the wort on the front end. Your beer will get plenty of bitterness and/or aromas in the bag just as they would be floating about freely only you keep the sludge out and easily removed. I have tested this myself on my IPA. One hopped with...

    Outdoor brewing

Oh man! The dreaded boil over? My kettle is 13 gallons so even the fiercest hot break doesnt come close to breach. Back when I did extract brewing in a 5 gallon stock pot it was always a concern of mine.

Single hopped mosiac pale ale recipe

Mosaic is awesome. Id say do this one with all mosaic and then adjust later if you think it needs some other hop characterstic. No way to know unless you brew it up!

    Outdoor brewing

I was in the same situation OP. I got a bayou classic burner and tried brewing outside. I hated let me rephrase hated the thought of anything foreign in my beer and fighting off bugs in the GA summer. Flies love wort! I brew 5 gallon batches inside now. I have a gas stove and moisture doesnt...

    Dry Hop question

Inquiring minds would like to know about dry hopping when i have a CDA that needs an ounce of cascades for 5-7 days yet I wont keg until probably 14-17 more days once my next keg kicks. Should I try to time it and wait a bit, or throw it in a hop bag and retrieve after 7 days if its not ready...

Sweet Stout Left Hand Milk Stout Clone

Brewed this a few weeks ago. My LHBS screwed up the grain bill and instead of flaked barley, i got crystal 60. Lol not sure how but keep calm and brew on. I think it turned out great. I still got the roasted barley in there which shines through. If anything the sweeter crystal 60 (opposed to the...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Also...could i do maybe .25 ounces of citra at 20 minutes? Would like to get some tropical notes in it. Or maybe dry hop for aroma only and no bitter?
