Is beer a common drink or a special drink for you?

I usually drink 1-2 beers a day all week, also in the weekends. Some might say that its a bad habbit to drink all week. I don't think so. I never drink to get highly intoxicated, as I don't really like the feeling of getting wasted, and I usually only drink after I am done for the day. Sometimes...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Could someone kindly explain why the BrewPi uses both a PID algorithm for the fridge setting and a "predictive on/off" algorithm to stop heating/cooling before hitting the target fridge temperature? I don't get why both are necessary :)

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

It is in the top of the \app\controller\TempControl.h file, from line 33 and onwards. As you can see, I have modified my cooling constants and set the switch time between heating to 0 seconds. I have not changed my heating constants, because they do not matter to me, as I don't have a heating...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I agree. Anyway, I solved my problem by modifying the source code of the 0.2.10 version to ignore min cooling time.

Its 0.2.10, 0.2.9 and 0.2.8. Just ran the updater with the --ask parameter.

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Is this an answer to my question? Because as far as I know, there is no 2.4 firmware, and the 0.2.10 firmware is the last one compatible with Arduino. Am I wrong?

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Thank you for the detailed info :) I might update to use the newer version of brewpi-script. With regards to brewpi-firmware, I downloaded the 0.2.10 source code and set the relevant parameters to zero (cooler minimum on time, cooler minimum off time, time to wait between heating and cooling)...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Hi guys. After having reinstalled my Raspberry Pi, I am using BrewPi legacy with the BrewPi legacy_script. As far as I understand, this is the newest software that is supported on the Arduino platform. I actually made my setup in the early summer and made two beers during the summer before...

Hopback - any worthwhile alternatives to the Blichmann HopRocket?

Cool. I've already gone electric, sort of, with a Grainfather (the european 2000 W version). It also seems that the HopRocket has a built-in filter, whereas the hopbacks from e.g. Stout Tanks do not, and therefore require the use of bags.

Hopback - any worthwhile alternatives to the Blichmann HopRocket?

Hi guys. I am looking to buy a hopback. I'm currently brewing 5 gal batches. Are there any good alternatives to the Blichmann HopRocket or should I just get that? I read a review in which a guy complained that the clamp on the HopRocket would rust easily because it was not stainless steel...

Covering your starter while cooling it

I cover mine with sanitized sprayed down tin foil. It's so easy to do, so why not just do it, right?

    My little keezer...

Congrats, looking good. I've only got two brews behind me, but also have a keezer. Bought it thinking that I would install it in an open shed in my garden, with a lock on the lid and picnic taps inside. Then I decided to take it inside and make a collar with regular taps. That I have not regretted.

What's your preferred way to apply Star San??

I prefer to fill up my conical about half, then disperse the Star San with a cloth until everything has been soaked. I also have a 1/3 full 2½ gallon bucket of diluted Star San around when I am brewing. It is just easier to throw stuff into the bucket, pick it up a couple of minutes later and...

    Don't Do That.

Pitch your yeast and then, after a while, take your OG reading because you forgot. Don't do that, Also, perform an obsessive sanitation of your fermenter, but then push down your dry hops with your bare hands until your entire forearm is lowered into the wort... do'h. Don't do that.

Hop combination for first ever own recipe (IPA)

Thank you for the suggestions. I would definitely like to avoid harshness. I had a 5.6% IPA at a beer tasting the other day which, according to the brewer, was about 104 IBU. It had a harsh unbalanced bitterness that wasn't pleasant. Didn't know Chinook could be too rough. Will check if I have...

How big of an Erlenmeyer flask do I need?

Narrow. I thought that was the norm. I use a funnel to pour in the starter and sanitized tin foil to cover the opening.

How big of an Erlenmeyer flask do I need?

I'm still happy with my 2L Simax flask and I do 5 gal batches. But hey, I'm still a newbie, so I might be wrong :)

Hop combination for first ever own recipe (IPA)

Hi guys I'm trying to figure out my first ever own recipe for an IPA or double IPA. It's my third all-grain batch. I've previously brewed a Bell's Two Heated clone based on a BeerSmith recipe and I really like it. It seems balanced. I would like your suggestions on good combinations of the...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Cool. I don't care whether its wifi or wired ethernet, as long as I can avoid USB. Thanks a lot for pointing me in the right direction :)

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Hi guys. I have tried to search this thread, but to no avail. Simple question: is it possible to make the Arduino Uno communicate with the web server, in my case a VM on a NAS, over ethernet rather than USB using, for instance, a Ethernet Shield W5100? My NAS is in another room and I already...
