    Bayou 62qt MLT false bottom

So I recently upgraded to the 62qt bayou ss pots for all 3 vessels. I'm trying to figure out the best and most efficient false bottom. I know the Blichmann false bottom is probably one of the most effective when paired with a bookmaker because of the design it saves from the wort channeling down...

    Fly Sparge

I wanted to get some opinions on fly sparge techniques My equipment: 3 vessel system. electric boil kettle. gravity fed HLT into water cooler Mash tun. Pump fed from mash tun to boil kettle. My questions: Beersmith usually tells me to fly sparge with around 3 gal after adding 2-3gal of...

Help - Not hitting post boil gravity

So incase anyone else has this problem, I think I found part of the reason: My equipment setup on Beer smith had a 1gal loss to trub and chiller which pushed the preboil volume up to ~8.5 gal. When actually I only loose about 0.5gal to trub. I reset that number to .5 and now Beersmith says my...

Help - Not hitting post boil gravity

Thanks Mad King. So basically if my hydrometer reading isn't accurate at high temp, then my mash efficiency isn't as great as I had thought it was (beer smith said 86%) and my post boil gravity check would be more accurate. Maybe I should just invest in a refractometer. I need to get a...

Help - Not hitting post boil gravity

I keep checking and rechecking the settings on BeerSmith. Maybe my hydrometer is damaged/not working properly? Can anyone tell me what their PWM % is set on their Auber PID for the boil?

Help - Not hitting post boil gravity

My equipment: I have a 15gal Keggle boil kettle (5500watt heating element - I usually run the boil at 65% pwm) with a chugger pump, whirlpool arm, and a 30 plate wort chiller. My Problem: According to BeerSmith I was supposed to have 8.5gal pre boil volume at 1.040 pre boil SG. I...

    Fermenting Temperature Best Practice

In the pictures from the original post. I have an ambient thermometer on top of the bucket and I have the probe in a small vial of water taped to the side of the bucket. I figure the range is from the thermal mass of the wort and the fermentation process creating heat.

    Fermenting Temperature Best Practice

As far as the hydrometer reading. I would have to open the primary bucket and use a wine thief to take a hydrometer reading - each time i do that won't it risk exposing the wort to infection and oxidation? what is best practice for taking a reading multiple times until its almost stable?

    Fermenting Temperature Best Practice

So i went ahead and dropped the temp down to 19C (66.2F) as per your suggestions. should I have taken the probe out of the small vial of water and taped it straight to the side of the fermenter? The STC read out only fluctuates between 18.6C to 19.8C. but the ambient temp stays near 10C. Im...

    Fermenting Temperature Best Practice

I need some opinions on best practice fermentation. Situation: I am fermenting 5 gal of a IIPA (OG 1.097). I did a 1 Liter starter with WLP001 and it has been 24 hours with a huge amount of bubbling and activity (so much so, it blew the airlock 3 times). I would like to ferment it for 5-7...

    Keezer paint problem

I recently started a keezer project after months of research. My problem is with the paint I used to paint the white chest freezer. I used Rust-Oleums Universal aged copper...

Keezer and beer line cleaning question

Thanks for all your help! Sorry I was unclear about my second question. I have sanke "d" taps and I'm going to rent 3 1/6 gallon kegs pre filled with some domestic micro beers. I assume they come pre carbonated? So all I need to do is have the co2 regulator set at a serving pressure (12psi?)?

Keezer and beer line cleaning question

I'm fairly new to the beer brewing and serving world. I have dreaming of the day I can start brewing and/or building a keezer for years. Finally I convinced my fiance to let me build a small 3 tap keezer for the wedding (in a classy way :D). My questions are: Does anyone know of a DIY beer...
