Maintaining A Healthy Yeast Bank Long Term

I have been using the "harvesting from the starter" method for the past year or so, thanks brulosophy. I really only use Conan, since I rarely brew anything other than pale ale or IPAs, and I love the character it brings to the brews. I use 4 oz jelly jars, so it's a perfect size. It doesn't use...

Brü's Views with John Wible | On The Hazy Beer Controversy

Yes, that looks disgusting. That's why you have to try it from the top brewers of the style! Obviously not every brewer can make a great NE IPA. Because I wouldn't drink this, or the Donkey Kong one.

Brü's Views with John Wible | On The Hazy Beer Controversy

And which of these beers have you tried? Have you actually had any fresh beers from these breweries? Or are you basing it on beers you've had from other breweries that are trying to brew to this "style" because it's so popular now? While the west cost reinvented the IPA style in this country, as...

Brü's Views with John Wible | On The Hazy Beer Controversy

And where are they located? West Coast I believe? I bet the Germans said the same thing about those crazy Belgians and their awful beers! It's funny how most of the people who don't like these beers are either on the West Coast, or old. "Those damn kids and their hazy beer!!" I believe if you...

    What are you drinking now?

    Bell's Two Hearted beats Pliney

First off, they are at totally opposite ends of the IPA spectrum. Two Hearted is fruity/herbal, Pliny is dank/piney. Secondly, the accessibility probably plays a part in it. Lastly, while Two Hearted is a great beer, make mine a Pliny!

Missed out on getting KBS locally, so I'm hoping someone can help me out with a trade for it. I have Heady Topper, Sip of Sunshine, Grassroots(Hill Farmstead) Brother Soigne', Stone Enjoy After 10/31/16 Brett IPA, and 14th Star Tribute DIPA to trade. I got the VT beers this past Thursday...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I haven't had Treehouse or Trillium yet, but I have had the usual VT suspects. Heady, HF, and Fiddlehead. All delicious beers with a great flavor and soft mouthfeel. I'm gonna try out this recipe. Subscribed!

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

I sure hope that works out for you. It's such an expensive beer to brew. I brewed a "Lite" version of this, due to only being able to mash about 12 Lbs of grain in my 5 Gal cooler(should've gone bigger). Same Hop profile though. Came out delicious! One thing I won't do again though, don't...

    Treehouse Style IPA's

I'm wondering if maybe the flour gives the hop oils something more to cling on to? Similar to using flour to make gravy?

Cider on top of yeast cake?

Not too worried about a little hoppiness to it. Poured the apple cider into a different fermenter, scooped 3 soup ladles of the yeast cake into it, and then pitched the 2 jars of harvested Conan into it. Bubbling away nicely this morning!:ban:

Cider on top of yeast cake?

I may have played a little loosely with the DIPA term. It turned out at 7% ABV, so not really a double. I'm probably just gonna scoop some of the yeast out and add it to some jars of harvested yeast I had in the fridge. Worse comes to worse, I can run to the LHBS and get some. Thanks for the...

    Some. Is that a problem?

Cider on top of yeast cake?

I'm getting ready to bottle a DIPA I brewed today. I've wanted to try making a cider. My question is, would it be alright to just pour 5 gallons of cider, and a little bit of table sugar, right on top of the yeast cake? I used a mix of Conan and Nottingham on the brew, so I'm thinking it...

    Why Do You Homebrew?

I guess for me it all comes down to the fact that I love to drink great beer, but great beer costs sooo much to buy. I can make a batch of great beer for a fraction of what it would cost me to buy. Plus it does make for a relaxing day. I don't get all stressed out about brewing. Not to say that...
