Starter and stir plate with dry yeast?

I'm new to this and have done only 2 batches so far. In both I used liquid yeast with a starter AND a stir plate and got great fermentation activity. I'd like to know if a stir plate can be used with a starter using dry yeast? Thanks for the replies

Why early & late Malt addtions

Hi all: Am new to this and got an extract kit that calls for 2 lbs or DME at the begining of the boil and 6 lbs of LME to be added in the last 15 min. of the boil. My question is why the addtion of malt so late in the boil? Also, can DME & LME be added at the same time? Thanks for the replies,
