    Amber Ale Recipe (Opinions Please)

Cool. Thanks. I don't have Victory, but I do have some caraaroma. Would that work (maybe 4oz)? I would have to make some slight adjustments to the other specialty grains.

    Amber Ale Recipe (Opinions Please)

Hi All - I am trying to improve an amber ale recipe I did last year that people liked, but it was a little light on body and hops. Here's what I am thinking: 9.33lbs of Briess Organic 2 Row 8oz Toasted 2 Row (350 degrees for 15 minutes) 9oz CaraMunich II 5oz Honey Malt 6oz Caramel 10L...

    Using Munich (Light)

Thanks all - I just did not want it to add too much color, I was just hoping for some slight breadiness and a little body.

    Using Munich (Light)

Hey all - I am looking at doing an APA (New England IPA) and was not sure if I should use a little munich malt or not. Here's what I am thinking: 5gal batch - 11.33 lbs or Briess Organic 2-Row 1.5 lbs of Flaked Oats 4oz of Light Munich (8 Lovibond) 8oz Raw Cane Sugar Hop...

    Pacific gems

Thanks - That's where I am getting them from. "Northern latitudes" is just a bit vague. I figure, latitude-wise, I am 2 hours north of their lat, so I'll give it a shot.

    Pacific gems

I don't mind spending money....I said I did not want to waste money if they will have trouble growing this far north. I will be eventually taking off the rhizomes (none have shown yet) - I am just very cautious as it took three tries to get plants to take.

    Pacific gems

Has anyone tried to grow these? I am getting ready to place my crown order and am looking for something a little different. I currently have the following plants going: (1) Tettnanger, (1) Chinook, and (2) NB. I am getting one more each of the Tettnanger and Chinook, along with a cascade. I...

    bulk grains

I am looking at buying some 1lb packages of hops (on sale) - Also have four plants that I started from crowns last year (1 chinook, 2 NB,and 1 Tett) and planting 4 more this year. Yeast is a little tough as I got hooked on the liquid

    bulk grains

I am kind of all over the board. We like APA's the most, followed by Belgian, and I brew one to two lagers a year. I was figuring I would keep 10-20# of MO Crisp in the pantry just in case.

    bulk grains

Hey all - looking to start up a pantry and want to have 3 types of base grain that I buy in bulk. I brew a lot of pale ales, ambers, and saisons; so I was thinking 2 row, pilsner, and Vienna. Then keeping 10 lbs of wheat and MO Crisp on hand. Any thoughts?

Crush with Corona Style Mill (first)

Thanks for the feedback guys. I spread the grains out and there were no un-crushed grains, so I think I'll mark the spacing and see what a little tighter may do. Definitely will be doing the mods and getting something figured out to control the dust and hulls from flying everywhere. I am...

Crush with Corona Style Mill (first)

Just wondering if I could get some opinions on the first run crushing of the new mill (Corona style for $25!) I haven't done any mods to it yet, but have never crushed my own, so I was hoping for some feedback or pointers. Thanks!

    What Did I Brew?

Thanks for the input. The hops are fairly mellow(5% AA), just a nice little "spice" to it. The caramel and toasty notes really dominate (not sure if the double decoction lent that to it or not). All-in-all, I am really pleased no matter what it is.

    What Did I Brew?

So I brewed my first lager, and we poured one after a week in the bottle, and it's tasty; however, I am not sure what it could be classified as. Receipe as follows: 6.5 gallon 8 lbs Pilsner 2 lbs Munich Light 1/2 lb Caramunich 50L 1/2 lb Aromatic 3oz of Tettnanger (1oz @ 60...

    Cleaning/Sanitizing Question

Thanks to all for the replies, it's why I love this site. I realize the whole B-Brite is not a sanitizer argument, but I have never had a problem with any infections or anything after letting everything soak for a minimum of 30 minutes. I figured we always used it on glasses at the bar I...

    Cleaning/Sanitizing Question

So I made a couple of mistakes when brewing my first lager (AG) last night. I went a little too late into the night and when I was moving my chilled wort from the kettle to my primary, I forgot to completely rinse the B-Brite from my primary. Will this affect the finished product? (Instead...

    IPA / Hop Scheduling

Hi all - This site has been a life-saver for me so far. I just started about 6 months ago and am hooked. I am going onto my 6th batch, which will be my 3rd attempt at an IPA (the first, I toasted 1lb of crystal too long and ended up with a good Brown Ale, the second ended up not being super...
