I also see the display fluctuations - however only when the unit is in Fahrenheit mode. I don't see these fluctuations when it is set for Celsius. Perhaps that means it's just a display artifact? Odd and annoying, but we should all be metric by now anyhow. :) -AD

KW - Good points about avoiding laminar flow at low wort flow rates. No doubt I'm running into this myself. That said, I imagine there's a limit whereby running the pump wide-open will be so fast that cooling efficiency will drop off...? I'm also curious if anyone has creative ideas on how to...

Yes, I'd agree: definitely a closed-loop system as the submersible pump wouldn't work without a reservoir. There are quite a few options for inline pumps for liquid-cooled PC systems.

My thought was to replace the reservoir entirely with a smaller radiator inside the fridge/freezer. This is certainly much more space-efficient. If the radiator has better thermal transfer characteristics than a bucket or corny keg, then perhaps it would work despite the smaller size...?

Has anyone considered using a PC cooler radiator in a fridge/freezer instead of a large bucket of water?

TJ, I've had nearly the identical experience (and arrived at the same final methods) with my stainless CFC unit from Williams. I had thought maybe the poor performance was due to the difference in heat transfer between copper and SS. However, given your copper experience is nearly identical...
