    2.5 gallon batches

I want to start brewing all grain BIAB 2.5 gallon batches. The reason for the 2.5 gallon batch is because I'm thinking it would be easier to do with the BIAB method. Also, easy to convert 5 gallon recipes. If the batch isn't the best I will end up with 1 case instead of 2. If I brew a batch I...

    Should I dry hop?

I brewed a IPA last week and I'm not sure if I should dry hop or not. It was an extract batch using 6.6 lbs. LME and 1 lbs. DME. The hops were 1 oz. magnum at 60, and 3 oz. Citra 1/2 oz 20 min. 1/2 oz 15 min. 1/2 10 min. 1/2 5 min. 1 oz. whirlpool. The Citra hops were 14.1 AA. If I dry...

    Broke hydrometer, need O.G.

So last night I brewed an IPA. After I sanitized my hydrometer it slipped out my hand onto the floor. Can someone with brewing software please help me figure out my O.G.? I used 6.6 lbs. of light LME, 1 lbs. of light DME and 10 oz. of dextrose. Also if it makes any difference my hop schedule was...

    Citra hops in extract IPA

I'm brewing a extract IPA tomorrow. I have 3 oz. of citra and 2 oz. of Amarillo and 1 oz. of magnum for bittering. My question is at what times should I add the Citra and Amarrillo? Also, I have some Crystal 60 L. That I would like to steep. How much should I use? Thank you in advance for any...

    Porter recipe

I'm looking to brew a simple porter with some extra ingredients I have. Currently have 3.3 lbs. light malt extract, 1 lbs. Pilsen dme , and .5 oz. of east Kent Golding. Was thinking of picking up 2 or 3 more lbs. of dme and some Fuggle hops. My question is what kind of specialty grains should I...

    Cold conditioning

I bottled a Amber Ale about four weeks ago. The beer turned out great! The problem is when I refrigerate for a few days it is completely different. If I refrigerate one for a couple hours it taste perfect, great head, great taste, and the mouthfeel is spot on. If I refrigerate for a few days...

    Us-05 yeast

I've heard that if you ferment at too low of a temp. with 05 yeast it will produce peach like flavors. I fermented a cream ale with 05 at 62-63 degrees. Tried one and it does have some fruity notes. I did not think that was very low to ferment but there is definitely something there. Will this...

How long is Star San good for?

I mix up a five gallon batch of Star San for every brew day and bottle day and use it once. Can it be saved after it's mixed? How long do you guys keep pre mixed sanitizer for? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    How to stop carbonation

I bottled a cream ale the other day. Used Northern Brewers priming calculator. It said to use 4 3/4 oz. corn sugar for 5 gallons which I did. The problem is when I bottled I only ended up with 48 beers. I'm pretty sure that's about a six pack short of 5 gallons. I plan on trying one every week...

    Belgian tripel

I finally got a proper fermentation chamber! Chest freezer with a Johnson A419 control. I'm pretty excited to see how much this will improve my brews. So I'm planning a Belgian Tripel and having never brewed one I need a little advice. The yeast that came with the kit is Safbrew s-33. Should I...

    New Glarus

Stopped at the New Glarus Brewery today on the way home from my honeymoon with my wife. The place is very impressive! Self guided tour and you can take beer from the tasting room with you. Picked up a case of Staghorn and a couple bottles of the 20 year anniversary strong ale.

    Overcarbed stout

I brewed a milk stout that is over carbonated. It has great taste just very carbonated. Is there anything I can do? Will aging it help?

    Dry hopping after seven days

I brewed a batch of black IPA seven days ago. I racked into secondary last night with a hydrometer reading of 1.017. The OG was 1.076. My question is can I dry hop for five or six days or should I wait a while longer? I don't want to add dry hops without it being done fermenting, but as

    Dry Hopping

I'm going to be dry hopping a batch of IPA in about a week with 2 oz. of Zythos hops. This is my first time trying this. My question is how long should I leave them in before bottling?

    BRY- 97 yeast

I pitched this into a batch of black IPA that I brewed yesterday afternoon and there is little to no airlock activity. Does this strain take a little longer to get going? My last few batches I've used Nottingham and within 8 to12 hours its chugging vigorously.

    Brew in a bag

I'm interested in trying the all grain brew in a bag method. Can you do five gallon batches this way? The recipe I have calls for 11 pounds of grains. Is that to much for a five gallon kettle? I would appreciate any info.
