    Canning your priming solution?!

I guess it seemed exciting when I though about it. Thinking about it again. It does seem a little ridiculous for such a small thing

    Canning your priming solution?!

Yeah, It may seem like overkill, but you could do several little jars in one canning session. It would maybe take about 30 minutes in total, and you could do around 10 small jars. That's 10 brew sessions. It takes me about 10 minutes in total (not including chilling) to prep it on bottling day...

    Canning your priming solution?!

I am a relatively rookie brewer (20 batches), but I am thinking about beginning to can my priming solutions. My partner and I have canned her jams on several occasions, and we have a canning kettle. Today I was thinking about how every time I bottle, I have to measure out sugar, collect a proper...

Pitched warm (82 F) with starter

Yeah, the beer is totally ok. Its carbing up well with good color, clarity, body, and head retention. While the fusels hit the nose a little bit, it has a nice hop aroma. And the fusel taste is not in your face, so the beer is totally drinkable (I wanted another one after my first). I'll let it...

Pitched warm (82 F) with starter

So, after reading the "To Secondary or Not? John Palmer and Jamil Zainasheff Weigh In" thread, I decided to let the beer sit in the primary for one month. I bottled on Saturday, and tasted it too. While the beer tasted okay, there seemed to be a pretty strong fussel alcohol flavor. I tasted the...

Blow off set up: control beer & yeast loss

No I had not heard of the Burton System. I looked it up on the web, and yes it is the same idea, and it makes sense that you don't need the valve. It could be a nice touch though to dictate exactly what you allow back into your beer ;) Thanks for the comments. Cheers!

Blow off set up: control beer & yeast loss

I understand there is debate about how to balance yeast and beer loss with blowing off braun heffe, and about whether or not braun heffe needs to be removed. That debate aside, and also ignoring the ridiculousness of this set up, does anyone see any real problems with this idea for maxing out...

Pitched warm (82 F) with starter

Thanks for the feedback. I have typically pitched around 62 in the past, depending on the yeast strain. I guess we'll see how this brew comes out. Fingers crossed. I will post what happens after I pop open the first bottle

    Hello from Beer City!

Asheville is my hometown- awesome place. You definitely should check out Mountain Ale and Lager Tasters (MALT). I was a member for a few years. They are an awesome group of homebrewers who make good contacts, have fun events and trips, and are just awesome to hang out and brew with. Check out...

Hello, I am a new HomeBrewTalk member. I started brewing about 2.5 years ago after meeting a friend who a was a member of Mountain Ale and Lager Tasters in Asheville, NC. I later joined, and I've been brewing ever since. I have never all grain brewed, but I hope to begin soon. I brewed...

Pitched warm (82 F) with starter

Hey, So I recently purchased a Brewferm 12 plate chiller and I just used it for for the first time. I purchase all of my supplies by mail (I live in Sweden and gas is too expensive to drive the 60 km to the brew store and back). I tested the chiller and found that everything flowed okay, but...

Low Budget Student With Rusty Pot

Thanks for the replies, A couple things. I misspoke when I said the pot was enameled. Only the Outside is enameled. The inside is made of what looks to be a steel of some kind (not stainless, and not aluminum). Topher- I found an aluminum 4.7 gallon kettle for canning at a thrift store...

Low Budget Student With Rusty Pot

Hey, I am living in Sweden pursuing a Masters Degree. I do not have the budget right now to buy equipment (at all) and have resorted to searching yard sales and thrift stores for cheap stuff. My stove is way too weak to boil enough water for brewing. I acquired a rusty vitreous enamel...
