    Dry yeast packet was soft. Still ok?

    I purchased an ingredient kit from my local hbs shop yesterday and when i received my packet of dry yeast it was hard and still vacuum sealed, however today i began brewing and i took the packet out of the fridge and i noticed it was soft.     Is it bad that my beer has been in the primary for 3 months?

    5 gallon vs 7.5 gallon stock pot?

    So I purchased a 7.5 gallon stock pot from a local brew supply store, but all the beer extract kits instructions always say to boil anywhere from 2.5 to 3 gallons of water, then add the water to the carboy after.     Just finished a brew, is it supposed to look like this?

    Its an IPA, i followed all directions and it turned out really really cloudy and foamy. the only thing i did differently was add some spring water to help cool it. any comments?

    One quick question about the OG of my just finished batch.

    so the og on the houblonmonstre ipa i just made says it is supposed to be at 1.082, but my hydrometer reading says that it is at 1.062. the temp is good, i swirled the hydrometer. why would it be so much lower than what it is supposed to be? also, what all effects the hydrometer reading?

    Beginner yeast questions.

    So I am brewing a houblonmonstre ipa and the og is 1.082. I have a 1000 ml yeast starter, and that is good for beers with an og of 1.080. I have the wyeast I was going to make a starter out of. Am I going to need to build it up twice, or will I be ok if I just pitch the wyeast.
