    Cleaning the Bag

I dump the spent grains in the yard. Must be some tasty bugs in that pile, 'cause there's an army of lizards living on it.

    Plastic eKettle?

Put on your flame suit. I did this last year in a home depot bucket and got torn to pieces on this board. Here's a link to my ghetto brew kit: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/ghetto-brew-kit-369699/

a question about putting element in Kettle

Your going to love electric and the PID. Your going want to circulate that strike water with a pump. Those $8 pond pumps from harbor freight work great. Don't boil it :)

    Wrapping my head around this...

watts/volts = amps just curious what are you planning to do running 4500 and 5500 elements at the same time?

a question about putting element in Kettle

No, you can't just plug it and unplug it. You WILL burn the wort that way. At a minimum you must pulse the element to control the boil. You don't need a PID, but good PIDs have boil control, so you can kill 2 birds with one stone.

    High Gravity Brew eBIAB Opinions

Hi Guys, 1. You're going to need a bigger kettle for 10 gallon batches of high gravity brews. 15 gallon ain't gonna cut it. 2. Basket - you don't need so stinking basket :) 3. If you got the amps go 5500w 4. Home depot has a nice element for ~$20. 5. Keep it simple on the...

ebiab - Scorched a batch.... what to do next time?

I grind once. I set my Cereal Killer gap with a credit card. I don't calculate efficiency. 3-4 hoppers for 10 gallons makes good beer. No burnt batches after I started using the PWM. One thing I should add. I pull off some wort for a starter before I begin the boil. I guess you could...

ebiab - Scorched a batch.... what to do next time?

Here's how I do it. Ekeggle with PID 1. Bring the strike water up to temp- throw a harbor freight $8 pump in to circulate the water for even heat. 2. Turn the PID off, pull the pump out, and mash in. 3. Wrap the keggle with a blanket. 4. Come back in 30 minutes to an hour (no I don't stir...

    Beginning BIAB Brewer

Yeah if you can swing an 8 gallon pot go for it. Start with an IPA. Until you get your mashing skills dialed in, you can hide your mistakes with hops. When your kung fu improves, you can do some malty beers. Good luck!

ebiab - Scorched a batch.... what to do next time?

Hey Kevin, Having burnt 2 batches myself I feel your pain. I assume that you're running less than 100% on the boil. If not, then you need to work on that. The other issue is it looks like your direct firing the mash. I don't have any experience with that, but from what I've read on here...

    eKettle stuck at 199F

965 btu to change 1 pound of water to 1 pound of steam. It's only 1 btu to raise 1 pound of water 1 degree Farhenheit.

    eKettle stuck at 199F

sounds like your only getting one leg of power.

    eKettle: recirculating vs. non-recirculating

I use a cheap harbor freight submersible pump in my ebiab keggle set up with PID. It cuts my time to temp in half and the heat is even. Without the pump you have a column of hot water and the edges will be cold.

REX-C100 PID (cheapest PID on ebay)

Both the thermocouples worked :) Not too thrilled with the PID action until I tossed my Harbor Freight Wort Chiller Pump (HFWCP) in the keggle to move the water around. Cheers!

REX-C100 PID (cheapest PID on ebay)

It was the thermocouple. I got 2 off the bay. One of them is 0-600. Does anyone know how to set up the Rex for that? Thanks
