    So who's brewing this weekend?

Gonna brew a Scottish Ale tomorrow, somewheres between a 70/- and 80/- (so 75/- I guess, heh). If all goes to plan and it's not too windy outside (like it was today), it'll also be my first brew outside of the kitchen. Gonna try out the turkey fryer!

    Homebrew Supply Websites

Seems like Northern Brewer is no longer offering $7.99 flat rate shipping. No big deal, a couple extra bucks won't kill me, but what's discouraging is they've switched shipping companies and are now going with UPS, which is way more of a pain in the ass to deal with than FedEx or USPS.

IIPA tastes better after sitting in fridge overnight

My IIPA just finished 3 weeks of sitting in bottles at 70-72 degrees, so I threw them into the fridge for a week of chilling. I cracked a couple after a few days and it's good except for the excessive head and unappealing mouth feel (my best way of describing it would be "cottony"). I think this...

    St Patrick's Day Brew

I'm gonna brew a dry irish stout. 2.5 gal batch BIAB method. It'll be my third BIAB brew but first time brewing outside (on my balcony) using a 7 gal turkey fryer pot + burner. Got the grains a few days ago and was gonna brew but remembered that Saturday was St. Patty's day so I felt obligated...

    Northern brewer or Midwest ?

Update: I just got off the phone with Midwest customer support and apparently they're having issues with Paypal not notifying them that payments have gone through, so that could explain the delays. I also requested to drop an item from my order and add another and the guy on the phone was most...

    Homebrew Supply Websites

Agreed. I just resurrected an old thread to point out that fact but I should've looked in this thread first! I've always received my NB orders within two days (sometimes the next day if I place my order early) and that's with their standard $7.99 shipping. I've now placed two orders with Midwest...

    Northern brewer or Midwest ?

Hate to dig up an old thread but I figured this was related so why not: what are people's online ordering experiences with these two suppliers? I've placed several orders from both and NB seems to be a lot faster with order processing and shipping than Midwest. I live fairly close to...

Wort into fermenter & Hot/Cold break material

New brewer here with a newbie question: So I've been browsing the forum and noticed that some people just throw the whole contents of the brew pot into the fermenter after it's completely cooled. No straining out the hops or anything, it all goes in. My question is: doesn't this also add in...

How to make a yeast starter - Pictorial

I'm doing a partial-mash 5 gallon IIPA tomorrow night and made my first ever yeast starter about an hour ago. I have a few questions: - Do I need to step it up like described in the OP? If yes, do I have enough time if I'm planning on being ready to pitch in roughly 28-30 hours? - When I make...

    DIY Interwoven "Rib-Cage" Immersion Chiller

Hmmm...are you sure you bought soft copper refrigeration tubing? There are several different types of copper tubing and perhaps you bought the wrong kind? I picked up a 50' coil of 3/8" OD refrigeration tubing (Cambridge-Lee Industries, Inc. brand) from Lowes for $23 and it was very easy to work...

    Greetings from ND

I've heard that strippers are making even more than that...like 2k a night! There's probably a little more than just stripping going on, though...Those communities out there are hurting bad right now, like I said crime is going wayyyy up and they can't hire enough law enforcement because why be...

    Greetings from ND

Thanks for the info on the rib cage design, I've never seen one of those before. As far as the copper tubing, I've discovered that it's quite a bit cheaper at Lowe's than anywhere else. Like ~$25 for 50ft. No chance of me going to Home Depot, those idiots built their store right across the...
