    New Beers Resolutions!

Still new to brewing ( 2 years in ), and just gotten my efficiency and other bits to be consistent ( a bit low, but consistent at least ). I built a 4 tap keezer with coffin box, which now needs to have a bar built around it ( part of finishing basement in the house ). I have enough gear...

    Mashed temp and FG

Reading a bunch of threads on here, as well as looking back at some of the books I've got ( Palmer, Papazian ), I think I know the answer to my question, but looking for some additional input. Last brew I made was an IPA. It's my 4th All Grain brew, with several extract and partial mash...

    Another US-05 experiment... temperature fluctuations

Interesting. I'm starting to play with controlling my ferm temps better than "mostly between 60-70F", and also use US-05 for most of my IPA/APA styles.

    Halloween Specials @ Kegconnection.com!

Posted in the other thread, but posting here as well. I'm in the market for some kegs, as I finally have a house big enough. :) I would love a code for the new kegs! Thanks, -Chris

NEW KEG SALE! HBT *ONLY* Promo Code! - Kegconnection.com

Finally moved into a house with enough room and have permission to build a kegging system. ( Wife likes the beer, but doesn't like the bottling. :D ). If this deal is still open I would love a code, as I'm in the market for some kegs. :) Thanks! -Chris

    First AG Brew 2/18 (tomorrow!)

Target OG is 1.050, and is what I get from BeerTools software when I plug in the numbers, and crank efficiency down ( to give myself some room for error ). Around 4.5%-5% ABV, and it's a pretty "pale" ale. On the low end of the BJCP guidelines for APA. This is a 5 gallon batch. If I...

    First AG Brew 2/18 (tomorrow!)

Alrighty, getting ready for my first attempt at going AG tomorrow. Last weekend's brew was a partial mash, testing out my newly modified Igloo MLT, and it worked great. Tomorrow, I'll be testing it out for the first time with a full grain bill! :ban: Planning to do a Goose Island Green...

Yet Another Recipe Critique (Oatmeal Stout Partial Mash)

Dark Chocolate was a typo in the original, sorry. They're both about the same difficulty, I'm more concerned with not ending up with an overly astringent brew due to using too much of the dark malts. My LHBS has Belgian Chocolate, UK Chocolate(Pauls), American Chocolate(Briess), Pale...

Yet Another Recipe Critique (Oatmeal Stout Partial Mash)

Okay, some good insight and suggestions. Going to change the hops to Wilamette, and reducing the Dark Chocolate Malt, and increased the mash duration ( and temp slightly ). Here's the current iteration: 2 lb Two Row Pale 1 lb Oat Flakes 0.5 lb Barley Flakes 1 lb Crystal 60 0.5 lb...

Yet Another Recipe Critique (Oatmeal Stout Partial Mash)

Okay. Have a few extract brews under my belt, and one previous partial mash. Upgraded a few things ( got a bigger BK and wort chiller ), so I can now do a full boil. :ban: Working on building a cooler MLT, so moving to all grain soon, but for now, still wanting to change only a few things...

Not at fg after 14 days.

Test it again in 2 days. If the reading is the same, it's done fermenting. Nothing wrong with letting it go a little longer in the primary. It may take a little longer for the yeast to finish it's work, depending on the type of yeast, how you pitched it, and what your fermentation temp is.

I accidentally switched the hops ***urgent***

Unless you pee in it, it's very hard to ruin beer. Cascade has slightly higher alpha acid than Saaz, so you'll probably be a bit lower than your target IBU. Both are used as aroma hops, so there's no problem adding the Cascade at the end of the boil. If you still have time, I'd add 1/3 of...

    Hello from Chicago 'burbs!

Santa finally delivered me a 2 bucket starter kit for me this year. After saying I wanted to get into this for a while, I now have no excuses. Starter kit is your basic 2 bucket system, with the basic accessories ( hydrometer, thermometer, tubing, spigots, stopper, airlock ). I also picked...
