    Mashing

I have the home depot 10 gal round cooler that I have been using as my mash tun. The drain tube has been working ok, but last brew it clogged and was a pain. Does anyone use, and how well does the false bottom work that is made for these types of mash tuns? It seems odd to me that the drain tube...

    fermentation/gravity

My algrain 5 gal batch has been fermenting for 12 days and got so vigorous I had to put on a blowoff tube. My O/G was 1.051. I just took another reading and its at 1.02 and kinda carbonated. I know I need to do another 1 or 2 readings to see if its done and ready to go to the secondary, but how...

    fermenting

The krausen is bubbling into the airlock, as you can see. It is not exiting the airlock, as you can see it is all in the vodka. So the only risk is the possibility of having to clean up a mess if I dont rig a blow off tube? The beer will still be ok?

    yeast/oxygenating

FYI 2 days ago I brewed a 5 gallon all grain. After the wort was chilled to 70 degrees, I attached an oxygen tube to my racking arm that came with my original brewing kit. I turned on the oxygen and lightly stirred it all around the wort as the oxygen bubbled up through. I only did it for 1 to 2...

    Fermenting

My all grain is fermenting well, I'm using a 3 piece airlock and about 20 minutes ago some foam bubbled up into the airlock. I have vodka in the airlock. Should I change out the airlock later tonight or just leave well enough alone?

    yeast survival

I di my all grain batch, everything went very well, but I was always told to put vodka in the airlock (3 piece is what I'm using). So I did as normall, but after a few minutes I looked at it and the vodka was sucked up to the very top of the inlet tube inside the bell. I took off the airlock and...

    yeast pitching

If the water is bottled/purrified water does it still need to be boiled?

    yeast pitching

Just wanted to be sure, some people tell me just to open and pour it in. While others swear by hydrating. There are no directions on the pack so i assume room temp water about 70 degrees is ok?

    yeast pitching

Im doing an all grain batch today and I'm using safael 05. is it necessary to hydrate the dry yeast before pitching? Does it make a big difference in the grand scheme of things?

    Fermentation

I brewed an allgrain 5 gallon batch this past Thursday evening, by sat the temp in fermenter climed to 76-78 degrees, then cooled off to 72-74 degrees. I have seen no bubbles yet and its Sunday afternoon. Should I open and see? If theres no activity should I re-pitch yeast? I pitched dry yeast.
