    Question about glass carboy

A 23L glass carboy. Roughly, how much of it will be full, to reach the 23L mark. I think the plastic primary bucket was labeled wrong (I purchased it at a store). When I fill the plastic bucket up to the marked 23L mark, then the contents into the 23L carboy, the carboy is just slightly above...

    the head of my beer

As someone indicated to me in another thread... soap (that not rinsed well enough from the bottle) will cause the head to disapate. Tested it out today. A bottle of store bought Sol, and with my home brew. The head was much thicker with the Sol and lasted much longer. My home brew head is...

    Need help with my stout

I have 12-13L in my carboy that is ready to be bottle. I'm curious how much to sugar to add. My local brew store says 2/3 cups... but I think that is to much for a stout? Heck I made 48 bottles of regular beer and used 1 cup of sugar... Thanks

Question about sugar on bottem on bottle.

I was reading somewhere - can't remember where... but it suggested, when racking the beer to bottle, put about 1 tablespoon of sugar for carbonation (i know filling the bottles individually isn't the best way). I added about a cup of sugar to my beer before bottling (23L). Now looking at my...

    Holiday problem :)

Today was a holiday in Canada - All stores were closed. I had a problem with my primary, I noticed today it was not sealed properly due to deformed container .... (thinking back on it I should have taken of the lid and used plastic wrap). I didn't though. The stout was in Primary for a...

    concerned question

I'm making a stout... was told to make it 13L instead of 23L... so I did as instructed... but the store also indicated not to keep the 13L brew in primary for more then 4-5 days because of the air-- 13L instead of 23L of liquid... I'm busy at work, and won't have time to rack to secondary till...

    When is my brew ready?

I had my brew in primary for 2.5-3 weeks... I moved to secondary (a day ago). When can I bottle it? And when should I bottle it. Also the recipe says to add 1-1 /12 cups of corn sugar to the brew before I bottle. Anyone this is what my recipe says to do... When I'm ready to bottle...

Question - Moved from primary to secondary

My brew has been in primary for three weeks... I moved it to secondary today (glass carboy) I added a yeast nutrient as my recipe instructed... and sealed the carboy with the special little cap... Should I see bubbles in that cap? Or is the yeast finished all it can do? Thanks

    Bottles

I've gathered some empties from some of my friends.... but unfortunately most of the empty's have mold in the bottem... IE most people who do not not brew their own beer... just drink the comercial beer and not clean... Should I just throw these bottles out? Or should I try to remove the mold?

Taste test from my first home brew

I'm fairly impressed... I sampled my primary today... it's been fermenting now for 6 days now in primary.... I'm brewing the following recipe... Muntons PLC Premium Range Canadian style ale. The beer appears to be darker, almost honey-brown... The initial taste of the beer surprised me...

    My first Hydrometer reading

From what I understand I need a reading of 1.010 before I move to secondary. My primary has been setup now for 4 days.... my hydrometer reading indicates is at 52, which I persume is .52? As I understand the alcohol level is low.... and I'm guessing the more time it spends in primary,t he...
