Have you ever swirled a yeast starter...

By the way, I did smell it and it smelled fine. That's why I poured it. And yes the stopper was firmly in place. My gut said I was fine, but glad I asked so my mind would be at ease

Have you ever swirled a yeast starter...

No stir plate, but I had swirled it say 10 or so times since I made it. Had not swirled it since last night and was merely swirling it to get it back into suspension to easily decant to primary. Hoping against infection! Thanks

Have you ever swirled a yeast starter...

To pour it into your primary fermenter. And it foamed out of the flask????? Bc that happened to me and I'm wondering if I can chalk it up to the stopper still being on, or and infection???? I guess we'll see as I poured it anyhow. Any thoughts/experiences/opinions?

    Flat tasting first brew

I have a Maharaja clone that I brewed on Feb 15th. OG 1.082 FG 1.022. after fermentation + bottle conditioning, it was pretty solid and decent carbonation. I waited another couple of weeks past the recommended 60 day bottle conditioning and it was fairly "standard carbonation". Now it is...

    Home brewing in Mississippi

Hey Jeremy! Shows my reading comprehension isn't the best. I thought brewhaha was opening somewhere in your neck f the woods but had only seen it mentioned once and just was going of memory recall! Thanks for clearing up my mis-information. Jonathan (jhardenpharmd on twitter)

    Transporting Beer on Airplane

This is legal. Not a problem at all. I have flown beer home 3-4 times and only this last time did I have a bottle break. It was the least prepared trip I had taken. I only had socks and clothes to wrap them in and lost a bottle of Avery Maharaja to breakage. The Pliny bottles and other 2...

    Home brewing in Mississippi

Both of the above mentioned changes are HUGE for MS. The tasting room bill as well as allowing Lazy Magnolia to contract brew above our state cap was huge for them. They have a large capacity and have been contract brewing for new AL breweries like Back Forty as well as LA breweries Bayou...

    Home brewing in Mississippi

MS homebrewer here. If you are on twitter I can point you in the direction of several homebrew clubs in the state ( that I know of). HBAMM is one for central MS that covers the Jackson area and holds regular meetings and competitions. In fact, a fall festival Jacktoberfest will hold its 2nd...

    Slow fermatation question?

My issue with wanting to 2ndary ferment is the 3 oz of whole simcoe hops floating at the top of my primary. I have to dry hop with 4oz whole simcoe plus 2.5 oz centennial and 2 oz of Columbus.(both pellets) this is A LOT at the top of my Carboy already. Are my reservations flawed? I have no...

    Slow fermatation question?

On 2/15/12 I brewed an Avery maharaja clone. The calculated OG/FG is 1.088 and 1.022 respectively (from ibrewmaster). The printed FG from Midwest Brewing Supplies is 1.012. My OG was 1.082 and after a week the gravity reading was 1.038. On monday it was 1.030. I plan on moving to secondary this...

    Avery Maharaja blow-out

Soooo...yesterday I brewed a Maharaja clone. This morning I was gone from 8-11am and when I checked on the status of my carboy/blowoff assembly, I had apparently crimped the tube and had a full blowout onto the low ceiling of my bar and splatter on the walls, etc. there is no telling how long it...
