Is There a Bad Recipe ?

Just reading that left a bad taste in my mouth.

    Mash tun cooler setup

That is what I did for a while - messing with the false bottom was never worth the hassle in the round cooler. Just pull the bag after mashing-lauter-sparge, easy peasy. Then I retired my mash tun about a year ago and just do full-volume BIAB.

    Labels

So you have labels that are not sticky? If so, the gizmo you are looking for is a Xyron. It adds an adhesive backing to paper products. I have also read reports of using milk as a label adhesive, but I have not tried it myself.

Trying to make sense of these gravity readings....

Are you correcting the SG readings for temperature? I like my Tilt, but it is not great for accurate readings without setting multiple calibration points (but it does a fine job of telling you fermentation activity and when fermentation stops).

    buying a pump

I have a chugger and I am very happy with it. I bought it used as part of a package of stuff. Before I found that deal, I was all but set on a Riptide. The chugger isn't necessarily loud, but it is not nearly as quiet as the Riptide.

    Omega OYL-501 Gulo

https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/omegas-new-gulo-ale-yeast.663063/ It's on my list of things to play with. A couple of years ago I made a couple of saisons that finished very dry and it really changed how I view and drink beers - I used to love Marzens and now I find them cloyingly...

    Evil Corn Syrup

It also makes amazing treacle pudding.

    Omega's new Gulo Ale yeast

Per Omega: Gulo Ale is the latest creation to emerge from the curious minds of our R&D team. The progeny of Irish Ale (OYL-005) and French Saison (OYL-026), this true genetic hybrid is a beast at devouring sugars, which creates a very dry beer without any of the peppery, clove phenolics...

    Foam Control for Canning Wort

You don't need to add it. If there is any foam, I haven't noticed it, and I expect the presure in the pressure cooker makes it a non-issue. Completely unnecessary in my experience. A drop per jar is a massive over-dose regardless though - IIRC the recommended dosage for boil control is 1-2...

Tilt questions - data logging process, imac pairing, etc

You can use a cheap old Android phone also. Anything 4.4 or better should work. I use my defunct Stylo S2 (which does not hold a charge). Need to see if the Tilt 2 app will work with my even old Kyocera Hydro. Tilt 2 says it works on the Kindle Fire, so a Fire 7 run $40 out the door.

Pick the hops for my NEIPA

Just did a NEIPA-ish with Comet (1oz @ 20min, 2oz whirlpool, 2oz dry hop). It plays like half Cascade and half Citra, factoring in the lower AA% compared to Citra. Should have done a 4oz or 6oz whirlpool, but overall it is a pleasant beer. Halltertau Blanc was very delicate in my experience...

    False bottom/screen for carboy?

Cold-crashing helps compact the trub / yeast cake below the point of the spigot - or rather, it does on my fermonsters. It leaves a pretty solid, viscous layer of gunk in the bottom of the fermentor, so even tilting the fermentor doesn't disturb it too much.

    new to biab equipment question

I use Brewer's Friend because it is free and accurate in my experience. I should really buy a subscription . . . If you buy your grains pre-milled, you don't need to buy a mill. However, pre-milled grains have a pretty coarse crush, which isn't great for BIAB, so your efficiency may suffer...

    Home brewery flooring options

A properly installed high-grade porcelain tile floor is tough, waterproof, and will last a lifetime. @Rev2010, slipperiness depends on the tile. USA-made tiles have a rating for coefficient of resistance, and that rating tells how slip-resistant it is. We have a porcelain-tile shower, for...

    Vacuum sealing hops?

You can buy pre-sized bags on Amazon and other places - makes things easier. I usually go with 2oz sizes for most varieties.

New to brewing - Shopping list advice

I'm a cheapsake and hate to spend money, but I can't oversate my love of my Thermapen. Yes, it is a a $75 thermometer, but it just works, instantly, and is so much more durable than all the previous junk I wasted money on.
