How many of you would roll the dice on this year-old yeast?

I have a pack of WLP007 I semi-forgot about in the back of my fridge. The best-by date is 11/12/22. I'm curious if any of you think a step starter would resuscitate it. I think it would be an interesting experiment, but would it be worth gambling the money I'll spend on grain and hops?

Wisconsin We're looking for homebrewers in Wisconsin's Northwoods

Hey, we could use some ideas, too! We drink beer and talk about beer at our meetings. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

    Braumeister efficiency issues

I have a different kind of all-in-one, and I too had efficiency problems. What fixed the problem for me was similar to what Christ71 says here. I take out about eight cups of wort from the spigot every 15 minutes or so, pour it back in the mash and stir well. I went from poor efficiency and...

How to get decoction results in a single infusion mash, Pilsner Urquell

Great video. Thanks for passing it along. Very informative … and a bit daunting. I’ll try to report back after I brew and after I keg.

How to get decoction results in a single infusion mash, Pilsner Urquell

Thanks for the reply. I’m brewing a Pilsner Urquell clone next week and I think I’m going to try a double or triple decoction just for the experience. I use an electric all-in-one so I’m not sure what to expect. But, all things being equal, maybe a regular mash with floor malted is the way to go.

How to get decoction results in a single infusion mash, Pilsner Urquell

Are there methods in your mash process that take into account that floor-malted Bohemian Pils is slightly under-modified? Or in the amount you use in the recipe?

Added Boil Hops at End By Accident...

I too wondered if boiling in some DME might have made a difference.

Added Boil Hops at End By Accident...

I recently made an ESB that was supposed to be 40 IBUs but tasted like it was devoid of hops. Don't know why. Several weeks later, I boiled an ounce of hops for about an hour and added it to the keg. The beer is now more bitter, but doesn't taste very good. I don't even know how to describe it...

What are you listening to (music!!!) right now? Embarrassing or not... share

I was watching "Documentary Now!" with my 33-year-old daughter, and Tom Jones made an appearance. She didn't know who he was (kids!), so I looked up some songs for her to listen to. This popped up. Didn't know it existed. Thought it was a joke. And then the song started. If my math is correct...

Is my smack pack still viable?

Not this time. I have so many things I need to dial in as a newb that I don’t need one more thing right now!!!

Is my smack pack still viable?

A belated update: The yeast worked just fine, with most of the activity in the first five or six days. The gravity has been at 1.012 for about a week. Thanks for all the help and advice. I learned a lot!
