    Northern Brewer's Barleywine kit- opinions?

I just threw it in at 60. Figured the NB kits uses all american hops and I wouldn't be messing anything up too much. Love those simcoe hops. Would really like to do a b-wine with Simcoe, Amarillo, Ahtanum and warrior just for ****s and giggles. Thanks for the guidance. Maybe after a little...

    Northern Brewer's Barleywine kit- opinions?

What do y'all think about dry hopping with an ounce of Simcoe with this kit? NB sent me one too many ounces of Simcoe Pellets in their old Surly Furious clone kit a month or so back and I'm wondering what it'd do to this recipe. Would it be better to add the Simcoe at 60 and move the other...

    Oaking AHS Yeti Clone

It was an extract kit from AHS. It had specialty grains, a pound or so of DME and some LME as well. Really good kit, but I don't know the exact ingredients. That's part of why i'm currently stocking up equipment to move to all-grain! Also, the kit was just a Yeti clone. I made it my own (with...

    Oaking AHS Yeti Clone

Poured out the excess bourbon. If I hadn't that would have been waaay overpowering. Used chips, too. It's been getting a whole lot better over the months. I wouldn't not recommend it. I was just saying my preference would have been a little less bourbon-y and maybe have some espresso. All I...

    Oaking AHS Yeti Clone

Slightly overcarbonated, but that had nothing to do with the oaking. I ended up soaking 1.5 oz of American and french chips in Knob Creek for three weeks during primary fermentation. I think if I did it over again I'd just steam the chips or soak them for less time since the bourbon is a...

Brewmometer Location on 10 gal Blichmann

Thanks. Looked at that page before and didn't even notice. I guess that one is put to rest. Wallet is lighter already!

Brewmometer Location on 10 gal Blichmann

Thanks, Z. I wonder if they redesigned after people noted problems, because like i said, I've read conflicting accounts. Also, when looking at pictures it doesn't seem too high up. Any more input would be welcomed!

Brewmometer Location on 10 gal Blichmann

Looking at the 10 gallon pot from Blichmann Engineering to use as a boil kettle over a propane burner for 5 gal batches. This is also being purchased as part of my effort to start all-grain soon as my current pot is too small for that. Like I mentioned, I'll be doing 5 gallon batches and...

First Time Brewer, Which Kit to Buy?

+1 for the Williams kit. Gives you a great place to start for extract brewing. Really happy with it and the Amarillo Ale kit didn't turn out half bad either. Judging from other stuff I've purchased at Austin and Nothern Brewer, I'd say you're likely to find quality products at those sites too!

    Best plan after bottling

I just drank the last two bottles from my first batch. They were brewed about two months ago and had been hanging out in my mini-fridge for quite some time (probably 2 weeks at least, after conditioning around room temp for two weeks). By far the best tasting out of the batch. I'm now putting a...

Doing a Yeti Stout Clone and trying to make it an Oak Aged (possibly Espresso Oak Aged) Stout, myself. Answers, closure, solutions, please!

    Oaking AHS Yeti Clone

Thank you, sir. I lived in Ann Arbor for about 6 months growing up. Very Cool town. Probably the best college town in the states! Don't miss the winter though. How long do you suggest keeping the chips in the secondary for? A week sufficient?

    I'm Hooked!!

Congrats, man! I too was just happy to say my first batch tasted like beer. Know the feeling and it's a great one!

    Oaking AHS Yeti Clone

Put this in the beginners forum earlier and maybe that's not where it belongs. I've found a good bit of information on oaking stouts in the forum so far, but would like to ask a few questions: I'm looking to get close to Oak Aged Yeti or Espresso Oak Aged Yeti if I can. 1. I have both...

I've found a good bit of information on oaking stouts in the forum so far, but would like to ask a few questions: I'm looking to get close to Oak Aged Yeti or Espresso Oak Aged Yeti if I can. 1. I have both French and American oak chips. How much of each for a 5 gallon batch? If I don't...

    Infected or just leftover krausen?

WCarter: Fermentation was pretty slow as it was my first batch and I made some mistakes here and there (nothing serious). So I think you're right about the aging and carbing thing, because when I took a sip out of the fermenter around the middle of the bottling process followed by a sip of some...

    Infected or just leftover krausen?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/lagniappemobile/4867150851/ Link should work if anyone has input. Looked like krausen that hadn't completely settled to the untrained eye.

Can't get the photo to load correctly. Nevermind. I"ll just wait like a good noobie.

    Infected or just leftover krausen?

Just bottled tonight. Didn't know if this was just residual krausen or an infection. Beer had a unique smell that I wouldn't characterize as vinegary, but instead like it was unfinished (as it should at this stage, I supposed). First time home brewing by the way. Feel free to tell me I'm a...

    Sweet Potato Stout

Certainly a great stout! We're just starting to get it on shelves over here in Mobile. I wish I had the experience to help you figure out your gravity conundrum, but I simply don't. Good luck with Raise your Pints. Free the Hops took time, but worked out (completely bucking any Alabama-centric...
